Unanswered: TH180 rebuild

Hey guys, I'm fairly new to Opels (lots of experience with mopars), but I'm helping a friend out on a transmission rebuild, so I was hoping you could help me out with a little info. At the moment, I'm trying to find a list of critical specs, such as endplay and band adjustment. Also, my uncle said he has done a TH180 before and had issues re-aligning the front pump on assembly. While I was tearing it down, I didn't see anything that looked terribly tricky, so I'm trying to figure out what he meant. Anyone had this issue themselves?

When you put the two pump halves together you use a large clamping band to hold and align the parts as you bolt them together .HTH

Fsm ....

The 1969 Factory Service Manual that I have has an excellent step by step rebuild section on the Opel TH180 auto trans. Check out the 1973 FSM on this site - probably in that too.
OOPS - no it is not there yet.

Yeah, I checked the FSM posted on this site, but surprisingly, the Transmission section appeared to be empty. The car is a '70 GT and the owner found one for $40 that I'm trying to convince him to go for, but I'm hesitant to sink my own money into it at this point. I have a generic "Automatic Transmissions" textbook from a tech school that was printed in the late 80's which offers some insight specifically into the TH180 (fluid flow schematics and general operational theory), but is more general in terms of actual specs. I've also done a chrysler torqueflight (727), so I'm familiar with the general procedures, but was hoping someone might have a copy of the FSM and be able to scan in the relevant pages or relay the band adjustment specs and front pump installation procedure to me.

Sorry if it seems like I want something for nothing; I know how annoying it is when someone posts messages and doesn't seem to have a grasp on what they're doing (I frequent www.slantsix.org all the time). Maybe I will be able to convince the guy to get the FSM.

Fsm - Th180

Real easy to convince him he NEEDS a Factory Srevice Manual - just tell him you won't work on the trans without it! Either a 1969 or 1970 book will do - have not checked my 1972 FSM to see if they still gave such detail ...

Here are three of the 45 pages of clear step-by-step instructions about an Opel TH180 auto trans rebuild:

Adjusting the Servo sets the band adjustment. One end of the band is anchored in the case and a rod goes through from the servo to the other end.
Torquing the servo adjusting nut to 40 lbsft seats the band and backing off four turns sets the clearance.

@ GT Jim

Would it be a lot of work to E-Mail the 45 pages to me???? I would like to have a copy of that manual, so I can work on my own automatic if it breaks down.

Pages ...

Those are pages from the 1969 Factory Service Manual - often for sale on EBay! Far better to get hold of a complete manual - the spine of mine won't take any more bending to get it in the scanner!

EBay

Just put "Opel GT Manual" into the search on EBay - I just did and there are several there now from $9.99 to $59.95 - Catch a bargain!

NOTE: It must be a Factory Workshop Manual - the 'Clymers' or 'Brookland Book' ones do not have the step-by-step instructions for a rebuild.
