If it is whining then it needs a darn good spanking.
Seriously all of my Opel trannys whined a little. Then I got a Getrag 5 speed and now is is as quiet as a BMW. The 4 speeds are just naturally noisy after 30 years.

I agree the stock tranny does whine a little.
If it is real noisy (compared to what?) it could have been run low on oil and damaged a bearing! I just re-built mine to fix an oil leak. The bearings, gears and syncros all looked good. If it shifts good and doesn't leak a lot of oil, just run it. Lyle |
