Unanswered: whiny transmission

My recently restored 70 GT has transmission whine. I put some Lucas oil additive (thickener) in the gear box and it helped to reduce the whine. But, I'm wondering if it is normal to have some whine from the transmission or if the Opel GT tranny is just noisy by nature. It shifts fine and the whine is really only loud when the revs get high or near the shift zone. Thanks, Jerry

Jerry, here is a single post that may help. http://www.opelgt.com/forums/105278-post3.html
Mine has a whine too, but all that I have had, (Opels) have had a certain amount of whine. HTH, Jarrell

If it is whining then it needs a darn good spanking.
Seriously all of my Opel trannys whined a little. Then I got a Getrag 5 speed and now is is as quiet as a BMW. The 4 speeds are just naturally noisy after 30 years.

I agree the stock tranny does whine a little.
If it is real noisy (compared to what?) it could have been run low on oil and damaged a bearing! I just re-built mine to fix an oil leak. The bearings, gears and syncros all looked good.
If it shifts good and doesn't leak a lot of oil, just run it.

Give it some cheese. Cheese is always good with a little wine.
