Thumbs up Unanswered: Difference Between GT and Manta Transmissions

I know there are some out there that still don't know the difference (visually) between a 4-spd trans for a GT and one for the Manta/Ascona. They ARE the same 4-spd trans, just where the shifter mounts is slightly different. Today I was swapping the very piece that makes it specific for what model and decided to post a pic for future reference for those new to Opels or are still confused. You can use a 4-spd out of a Manta/Ascona in a GT or visa-versa if you take a few minutes with a few simple tools and swap these pieces. On the left is the GT piece and you can see how it allows for the tilt of the motor. The RIGHT (better Dude?) is the Manta/Ascona which is straight up.

And if you're still not sure the GT specific one has "GT" on it!

Gordy;
I'll post a picture of a 4-spd, with all the steps, of which there are 7[ steps], tonight.

Thanks. I've got a GT trans I'll be putting in the Manta. The Manta's 4 speed has weak synchros in 3rd gear.

I found out about this, of course, just after installing my old Manta trans in the GT.

OK, here's the way to change out the shifter fork from a Manta to a GT or visa versa. Very simple, requires a hammer, punch, needle nose pliers, and a 3/8" drive extension (to be used as a "drift", if you don't have one) and a small flat blade screw driver. Takes about 15-20 minutes

And make sure you are driving the bronze shaft out the correct way as you will only flare the end if you try the wrong way. Don't ask me how I know.

Woa, who you calling a "heel". Just because I moved out here in the land of no rust....

And I have a good seal on the "boot" of my Mini so I don't have to worry about water in it.

Now, what were we talking about? I have been known to take a dremel tool to a bronze shaft to reshape it so the parts slide like they were intended to.
