Unanswered: 4 Speed Springs
I have done a search for a pic or info of the 3 springs used to control the 4 spd. I know 1 is used to control the shifter handle assy, (figured this one out) there is one directly below that that seems to wrap around the shifter linkage but it doesn’t seem to provide any tension for anything, and the one for the clutch fork. The latter I received is about 6 in. long I would assume that it is used for a clutch return from the fork to the cross member? Or does it go forward to keep tension on the throw out bearing to pressure plate? Also what is under the shifter boot? Is there some type of cover/plate/membrane that helps insulate the shifter hole from the cabin? TIA Cruz P.S. the FSM i have in PDF doesn't have a clear picture of any of this.......

I think there is actually 4 springs. One for the shifter lever, one around the shifter yoke assembly, I too am not sure what this one does, one for clutch return spring and one inside the tail shaft extension to keep drive shaft from impacting the tail shaft.
I used a leather shift boot underneath the rubber shift boot to help insulate. Lots of heat wants to come thru here.

Cruz, I believe the long spring from the throwout arm goes to a small hole in the tranny crossmember flange. And I think the one for the shifter yoke is to spring load the shifter away from reverse.

Hmm .. my transmission wont go into gear, the shifter kinda just flops around, do you think i could be missing a spring ? Or do you think the linkage one of the linkage arms are all jazzed up ? There are pics of my shifter without boot here http://www.opelgt.com/photos/showgal...71/sort/4/sl/r

i had a problem with my transmission in my 72 gt when i first got it the holes were the pins go into the shifter linkage i believe theres two of them they have a clip that holds the pin in, well they had turned the circle into a oval type shape which caused my transmission not to shift into gear. well the worst part was i was driving somewhere when this happened came to a stop sign and went to take off and i couldn't get my tranny to go into any gear i had to stick my hand down and shift the linkage with my hand a limp on home doing so it was kinda funny that i think about it know. i ended up welding up the oval shaped hole and re drilling it to the size of that pin re-assembled and was back on the road. well technically there are five springs the three on the shifter linkage and throw-out arm the one in the end of the tranny and the one that pushs the ball bearing under neath the bottom cover plate.
