Unanswered: 4-Speed Syncro Dogs/Shoes
So I consult the FSM and it says..."Arrows on the shoes point toward rear of main shaft" Sounds simple enough... but why put an arrow that points backward???? So I tear down the tranny that puked a bearing in the GT... the reason I'm doing this in the first place... and wouldn't ya know the arrows are facing the front of the car, just the opposite of what the FSM states... I don't want the put the dogs/shoes in backwards and have the tranny jump out of 4 gear everytime I press on the accelerator... ![]() Does anyone happen to know the correct way the arrows should point???? I really need someone with the facts to straighten me out on this......

Trans Keys
I have delt with this on many occasions as well. I am about 2 weeks from working on reseal of transmission myself, and do not remember for sure on the direction. The manual does state to the rear of shaft (and that the yoke that goes over it, its groove is towards the front-of the shaft I am presuming). I did have troubles with this so I assembled it and worked the yoke back and forth over it. I think I found that it only worked well with the keys arrow pointing one way. I looked in my training manual and there was not much info either, but does explain how it works in the 1.1 section...again no reference to the arrows

Worth A Thousand Words ....
" Make sure that the third/fourth speed keys used are the ones with the arrows marked on the outside. These arrows must face the shifter fork groove as shown in FIG 6 : 24"
The 3/4 shift fork groove faces the front of the gearbox = QED Here are a couple of pics from the FSM:
