BMW used the getrag 240 in the states but you'll need an Opel bell housing from Europe to make it work. Your best bet is to get in touch with OGTS.

-BMW used a Getrag transmission, model 242 IIRC, that shares almost every part with the Opel 240 except for the case of the transmission itself. You can use this transmission and it's parts to repair or rebuild the Opel trans, but on the Opel Getrag 240 the bell-housing is part of the case, not removable, and so you will need an entire Opel trans to start with. -BMW, Jaguar, and someone else I can't remember, also used an entirely different transmission, the Getrag model 265 5-speed, in several of their cars. This transmission features a removable bell-housing and was also used on some of the bigger Opels. That transmission could be used as-is from one of the American cars that it came with if you had the Opel bell-housing, but since the BMW and Jag guys are looking for them too they tend to stay in the $800-1400 price range even without the bell-housing. It is a heavier-duty transmission, and also physically larger, and not a good fit for the Opel GT.

Early 90's Opel Senator B, and the Frontera A and B.

Getrag 240
This trans was used in 2.0L Opel Manta from about 1979 through 1987 - the ones that had the 2.0L CIH Opel motor - also the Vauxhall Cavaliers/Carltons of the same era which shared the Opel CIH motor. Later four-cylinder Opel Monza/Senator/Omegas also used as 5-speed gearbox but had much lower first gears because they were considerably heavier cars. I believe these are the only ones that used the Getrag 240 with the 'Opel' bolt pattern bell housing.
So, you have to source them from the UK or Europe ... or contact OGTS who sell them used in California. Opel GT Source --- Welcome
