Unanswered: Carb - Replace or Repair?

I am stuck between a rock and a hard place here. At first I was sure I just wanted to replace my carb/turbo with a Weber 32/36 since I know NOTHING about it. But now my dad is trying to convince me to get a rebuild kit for it, and tune it (even though he knows nothing either). What should I do? How would I even go about finding a rebuild kit for a custom fit carb/turbo? And who could I take my car to, to tune everything.. mainly the turbo. I just am feeling this is going to cost way more money than I have. I will post some pictures of it tonight.

Jon

Ok. Well it does say GM on the carb, so on a different thread I posted, something about it being a GM carb.. I guess is correct. BTW, I really impressed myself with some of these pictures LOL. Beware, it is in dire need of a rebuild and cleaning.

Pictures are uploaded and awaiting approval

I realize the pictures have not been approved yet, but after some searching I believe I have found it to be a "GM Rochester 2 Jet Carburetor". The weird thing is, everything I have found about it, also says "Marine". What would this mean..? And would a rebuild kit be available?

Rochester 2-Jet Carburetor

Rochester 2-Jet Carburetor:
Rochester 2-Jet Carb Manual- The Old Car Manual Project
Marine = used on boat/ watercraft; exempt from Federal & State Emission Standards.

There are at least two Rebuilt Rochester 2-Jet carbs on eBay for $75 to $100.
I have no experience with this model carburetor, but can praise the 32/36 DGEV (or similar models) Weber carburetors.

I kind of figured that, but it just seemed kind of weird that the only information I could find included the word "marine". Why would something marine be on an automobile?

The 2GC Rochester was/is used on many, many of the older Chevy V8s - just about any Automotive store would have rebuild kits. A Mercury Marine shop would probably have "Marine" versions too as they sold lots of Chevy V8s as 'Mercury' marine motors for boats - also sold as 'Volvo' V8 motors back in the day.

I know talking about Chandler-Grove 97s or Stromberg 48s makes me older than dirt - BUT I thought that anyone who had any contact with Chevy V8s with 2 bbl carbs would have seen a 2GC Rochester!

Cleaned and rebuilt (gaskets, accel pump, needle valve/seat, check adjustments) my first Rochester 2GC in summer of 1957 (14 yrs old!). Dead simple 2-barrel carb with single shaft (synchronous) throttle . . . remove top and you can pretty much get at everything needed for cleaning and replacement parts.

This was the carb obviously provided for that particular turbo setup, so there should be no major worries about tuning (jetting, etc.). Clean it, replace accel pump rod/valve and needle/seat, put in new gaskets (all included in every 2GC kit) . . . that would be my approach.
