Uwe, a mutual German friend with some of you here, found a source for and was kind enough to send me a copy of the original factory assembly manual for the three "Sprint" models offered - 2-Door Sedan, 4-Door Sedan and Coupé. It details all the differences between the standard and "Sprint" models, entirely in German, of course. Production of the Rekord-C "Sprint" models began in January 1968 with Chassis-number 4 146 951 and using a modified 1.9 CIH engine as basis. The two most significant changes were the first use of lighter pistons, later used in all production CIH engines, and a 19H cylinder head with 48.8cc combustion chambers to produce a rated CR of 9.5:1. The manual devotes an entire section to the "Sprint" intake with 20 pages of set-up and adjustment procedures . . . everything you could possibly want to know about the Weber 40DFO! The most interesting tid-bits for me were the two photos of each side of a completed "Sprint" engine which showed the use of two different length intake manifold braces to "prevent vibration cracking". I wondered what those lowest paired, threaded holes on the manifold were for! Now I know . . . About a week later and before losing another bid for a "Sprint" air cleaner on German e-Bay, way too much money for me, I ran across a Repair Manual for Opel Rekord C (1966-1971), including Rekord Sprint, Commodore A and Commodore A/GS . . . just had to have it!

. . . and now the second part of my little "Sprint" saga.
I received this manual by Deutsche Luftpost a little while ago and promptly perused it, cover to cover. Though everything's in black-and-white, the manual is filled with photos and diagrams in much the same way my earlier Rekord PII factory manual is. It has the absolute best "blow-up" carb diagrams in it and two items which I had not been able to find information on in 30+ years. The most interesting to everyone here is a dimensional flywheel drawing with the factory spec for the clutchface "step" . . . Opel flywheel clutch faces are stepped, not flat like most American cars, but the step dimension is not found in any factory manual . . . that I'm aware of anyway! So, here it is: Flywheel step - 4.5mm +0.1mm (0.177" +0.004") ![]() The second thing is something I've wondered about for a long time, but of interest probably only to some fellow Solex users . . . ever wonder what the two threaded and connected holes in the carb-base boss next to the idle mixture screw are for? I've seen pictures with two nipples screwed in, but never really could think of any reason for them. Thanks to this book I now know . . . the two nipples are plumbed into the coolant system, in the same way that the water choke is, and is used to heat the carb primary right at the idle and transition ports! Probably originally designed for Norway, Sweden and Finland use . . . gets really cold up there, you know! So there you have it . . . my two-book saga is now complete!

Which one
Which manifold do you need the intake or the exhaust??? The intakes come up on German ebay quite regular, and the exhaust is same as the 1975 Us Sprint manifold from my understanding

Hello everyone!
I found this forum while googlein' for opel rekord c documentation and this topic came up. Unlike most of the members that usually register to a forum and ask for something, i'd like to break the tradition and help the owners of Opel Rekord C ('66-'72) with the factory manual. You may find the first page in the attachment. The manual has somewhere around 1100 pages; rekord owners (and not only them) that are interested in the manual may send me a private message and we'll find out a way for them to have a copy of it. I know how hard it is to find good documentation, that's the main reason why i registered this forum. The main disadvantage is that the book is in german (at least for those who don't speak german...i'm one of those) but it's better then not having anything to get inspired. I also have some documentation about various types of carburettors (and about some other car models); if someone in need, ask. PS: Excuse me for further (and actual) bad english expression, i'm not a natural born english speaker and i don't usually speak/type in english, altough i read daily websites in eng. |
