Unanswered: 38 DGAS inlet size

I want to replace the inlet on my 38 dgas with an AN fitting. What is the thread I need for the weber side of the -6 AN adaptor?

Chris, IIRC you can get 90 degree or straight fittings, AN on one end, pipe thread on the other end, probably 1/4", but I'm not sure. See if you have a "Parker Store" near you, they have a whole bunch of those fittings. HTH.

Well I don't have one locally so I still need the size and thread pitch.

A stock 38 DGAS has a pressed-in feed tube, it's not threaded.
You'll have to drill and tap to whatever size you require.

Darn Chris, I forgot where you're at. You could get hold of someone who works at the base and get a sample of what you want, so you could measure the threads. In the mean time here's a page from the McMaster-Carr catalog with the info that may help.

I have some of the older DGV's that are threaded so you can change the fuel inlet from one side to the other. Are all of the newer DGV's press in also? Are the tops the same from the DGV series to the DGAS series. I had thought about swapping an older top to a newer base in order to have the outlet where it should be for Opels.

I swapped my 38's feed to the outboard side last week. Tapped out the pressed in feed tube from inboard side only to find the unfinished outboard side's hole was too small. Odd how they'd be different, so they can be made into what you want I guess. I drilled it out carefully and tapped in the feeder on that side (after drilling out the "plug" so gas can go in of course). Not sure on the best method to plug the now unused inlet though (for now I have one of those rubber plugs that expand when you tighten a screw in there, not sure how safe that is though, not a good thing to have come out or melt or something). Also, I noted my 38 (from a Redline kit, therefore modded by them I guess) had the fuel bowl vent opened up. There was a threaded plug in there, I put on an angled fitting for future hookup to gas tank vent system, when I get around to THAT!

When I did mine years ago I found a plug with an allen head that was "close" enough that I don't recall even running a tap in it but may have. It is pot metal so if it doesn't go fairly easy don't force it! I used a gas resistant sealant and never looked back. Now on the other side I did have it pressed in inlet pop loose.

All the DGV's have press in fittings. The DGAV 33B was the first to have threaded in fittings. These are metric threads and not pipe threads. The 38 DGAS is like the DGV

Will the DGAV top work properly on the 38 DGAS?

I was thinking about this today. I think there is a tube in the top of the DGAS lid that goes into the carburetor body. I think putting a DGAV top on a DGAS will work fine. There will be a slight difference in gasket line up. If you look at my postings
http://http://www.opelgt.com/forums/...av-series.html

about the difference between DGAS and DGV gaskets you will see.
