| The nut size is M8 x 1 mm pitch it has a finer thread than the standard nut [M8 x 1.25], try looking somewhere on the suspension or engine at least higher than the ground |

I don't know the answer to the nut size BUT I can tell you where a lot of stuff ends up on that side of the car. There is a metal shield that runs parallel to the exhaust pipe just behind and below the carb. If you stand on the passenger side and look straight down behind the carb you can see it. I have dropped bolts, wrenches, and sockets down there in the past. Maybe that's where the nut went to...

the lost nut
Hi Matt,
The heat shield was good point sadly I had moved the carb to the front being to lazy to undo the fuel pipe, and forgot the nut was stuck at the side of the carb, saw a pool of fuel in the intake pipe, then the thing dropped into scrub, like thorns to keep cats off. The car is basically stood up for sake of this one nut, I have tried to cut a new one but just cant fatherm the thread even with a gauge. Cheers Rob |

Cheers for the reply, I cant tell you how grateful I am and how stupid I feel. The kids thought it would be fun to help out, I think I have put them off cars for a few years!!!!!! They now think a metal detector is mandatory, and a simply job will take well over 3 hours.
I have searched higher for the nut, but no joy. Still I will try to track a new on down, and a few spares. Cheers Rob |

NAPA has them and shorter carb studs too.. When swapping the Solex for a Webber you want to put it 10mm shorter studs.

Look down a block, on the corner, for that lost nut. There's more light there!
Good luck getting 'er back together. I always take a nut or a bolt with me right up to a good hardware store and just say "This is what I need!"
