Unanswered: Misab Plates Suggestions

I went for a spirited drive in the stroker GT on my lunch today. (Nice windy back-road, that's another story)

When I pulled into my garage and lifted the hood, there was a rattling which I traced to the heatshield under the carb that was dangling by one of the two bolts that fix the carb to the SSD intake.

I have the carb mounted using Misab plates between the carb and manifold.

Misab Plates

The lower bolts thread directly into the manifold only allowing the rubber spacer and washer on one side. In order to work properly, they can only be tightened to compress the rubber a certain amount. Anyway, one vibrated free and is lost..

Can anyone suggest a thread sealant that will prevent this and will stand up to the heat at the intake?

Loctite has a steam sealant that we use at work to connect pipes and fittings with each other and it seals air and water tight under high temperatures, maybe something for you??

Loctite. You can buy it at Lordco in Trail. We have the same carb mounts, well basically the same in stock in Vancouver

Yep, I bought some high temp loctite and put it back in yesterday. While it was out I also swapped the idle jets and now it is purring nice. Hopefully the 400 degree rating is sufficient.

i think you are supposed to use thackeray washers with those

eBay.ie: WEBER DCOE x2 MOUNTING THACKERAY WASHERS NEW (item 130225431218 end time 23-Aug-08 11:41:48 BST)

the spring action cushions them a bit more

Garsh. Since you asked.....
  1. Is an overhead shot of the 40DDH and Irmscher manifold
  2. Show the carb to manifold connection using the Misab plates
  3. Shot of set-up on engine.
  4. Shows the throttle set-up. I've had no issues with idle despite mounting the bracket in the head.
  5. Shot of Trail, BC from the east - just 'cause I love it here

So far the Solex has run very well as has the whole set-up. The manual choke works well. And no, the rag in the valve cover hole is not permanent

The header is coated with POR-15 header paint and has not discolored or flaked all, albeit with only limited use.
