I assume that you want to keep heating function. I also assume that you are using short intakes.
In that case, the back carburetor will likely be too close to the heater box (see attached pic). The picture shows extreme case, there is usually about 1-1.5 inch space between heater box and the last carburetor. What you want to cut is the section that is covering heater tubes and protruding in the engine bay approx 2 inches (see pic 2). You should than shorten the tubes (pic 3) and replace them with rubber hoses. Hoses can be tucked deeper inside which will give you approx. 1 inch extra space. Not much but enough for slim filter or very short air horns. Do not forget to enclose the opening with steel or aluminum sheet (use paper to figure out exact shape). The cover can be attached with pop rivets or small screws. Last edited by P.J. Romano; 07-12-2009 at 09:21 PM. |

Just finished installation of DSD Webers 40 DCOE and Sprint exhaust manifold. Even after the heater box "surgery", space for the last barrel is very limited. I must now manufacture some kind of air box which will be challenging.
Huge improvement in a car performance though! Some hesitation at low RPM, probably due to 34 mm chokes, I will try 32 or 30 mm. Last edited by P.J. Romano; 07-29-2009 at 09:05 PM. |
