OK Ron...off to the back of the class and stand in the corner.....after class you can write on the blackboard 100 times "I will learn the difference between a Kadett and an Ascona before I post on the hallowed forums of GT.Com"

Looks like some "PO" has removed all the original Kadett insignia and put another set of 'Opel 1900' logos on the boot lid .....

That's how it would have come stock in '71. Even the owner's manual refers to it by "model 3x" by then.

Correct indeed. There was a 74 on the lot when I got my 74 Manta. Wish I had the Ascona now too. That is a well cared for car too. Jarrell

Ascona-Kadett

Think of it as a GT without make-up They share the same floor pan, wheelbase, suspension, driveline etc. The Kadett may not be as pretty as a GT but at least it's nose doesn't rot out and the headlight set-up is much simpler to work on and from the looks of that one someone must have loved it

This is a 1.9 powered Kadett Model 31, 2-Door Sedan, as evidenced by the first two numbers of the VIN, "31". The owner was probably confused by the "1900" emblem on the trunk, which is correct for a 1.9 Kadett, and the "OPEL" emblem, which is not from a Kadett but from a 1900 (Ascona)! I own a '69 Kadett LS . . .

One thing to watch out for - SNIPERS! The last minute bidder who outbids everyone.

Well. The auction has been over for a while and the "SNIPER" (who out-bid me by $2.00) has neglected to contact the seller.

He's been in touch with me about coming out to take a look-see. I have been reading this forum and finding some superb information.

I'd appreciate any additional tips you folks might be able to pass on.

Thanks.. Heeps..

Lucky You!

From the pictures it looks a superb little car.

1) Check under the battery for rust

2) roll back the carpets and check for rust in the floor

3) Get the present owner to take you for a 5 or 10 mile drive to see how it runs when warmed up

4) Buy it FAST .. before the 'Sniper' wakes up .. or someone else swoops on it.

If the milage is genuine and the rust checks out that is one quite rare wee beastie - well worth having even if it has a tiny bit of rust.

Jealous!

PS: What would a 'common' 1971 Mustang or Camaro cost today ??

Someone alerted me that my car was being "talked about" on this site. I am the Seller on Ebay of the 71 opel 1900. This is the second time I tried selling on it on Ebay. The first time it sold, the guy never showed after much negotiation and it soured me and I figured I'd just keep it afterall. Then a year later I decided to give it another try as I don't get the time I'd like to to tinker with it. Wouldn't you know it, the SAME GUY won it again (different username so I didn't realize till afterwards). Long story short, he AGAIN tried to negotiated and never showed. This time I used Ebay's second-chance offer to offer it to the second highest bidder - kgalle. We set up a time for him to come see it, but he called and cancelled and now I haven't heard from him. I think Ebay needs to do more to protect sellers against this sort of thing since I have lost $$ twice now in listing it there.
Anyway, I never even thought of opel clubs as a way to reach other opel enthusiasts (We are a small group aren't we!?). The car is still for sale although I will not list it on Ebay again as I have now learned my lesson! If anyone would like to contact me feel free!

tve1974;
Put it in the classified section of the site here. There was talk of it when it was on Ebay, and there might be a couple of interested parties, so get your ad in.

Your e-bay listing has you located in West Lawn, PA. Which one? The one in Berks Co near Reading or Union County near Lewisburg. We have members in each area and they might be interested in looking at your car.

I thought it was clear . . . it's a Kadett! 1900 is the US model designation for an Ascona, an entirely different model which shares its platform with a Manta.

tve 1974,

Why don't you bring the car to the October 7th Opel meet at my home in Plumsteadville Pa? That way everyone can get a good look at it and chances are someone will buy it.

Have you been talking to her again? Actually, I am working on getting another one, but it's not that Kadett. I believe you already know which one it is.... The trade off is that my Kadett will be for sale ........... or trade .

Can't have that car....at least not with an engine. The engine that's in there now was supposed to be for the GT4 car, but it's on 'loan' to the current car owner.

I think you're thinking of the wrong car. Oh, and I don't want an engine for the one I'm talking about.
