What do you think? Does any member of the sight have a daily driver wagon? If i only had the money, and a means to pick it up i might of bid on it. |

Love It!
The text mentions it is a 1973 build year but first titled in 1975 - explains no F.I.
Got to be worth the candle ... for the seats alone!

The Green Machine
I really like those wagons. The one seems to need a lot. When I looked at the pix I still haven't figured out what is happening there in the engine bay. There are some things there I don't recognize (I have 75's) It also doesn't have fuel injection. So I guess it has been removed and a carb put in. Other questions I had was how long he has had it and what he's done to it. The owner said he had done some tuneup and it still isn't running well. Could be the engine also won't pass inspection along with the windshield. You might ask if he has any other pix,
particularly of the areas which are prone to rust: under the battery, lower fender behind the rear wheels and the left and right front frame member just below where your feet rest. Best of luck Gary

Clues to year. I don't remember which items go with what years but I do remember a few differences under the hood. Windshield washer nozzles, earlier style distributor is there, metal vs. plastic air inlet to right of radiator, I couldn't make out whether the wheels were '74 or '75. Someone referred to the dash being a '74/'75 dash, I never saw it in the pics, the '75 will have "unleaded only" where the fuel gauge is.

The year issue has already been discussed, see above. This wagon is a 1973 model. It sat on a showroom floor until it was sold new in 1975. Some states title based on manufacture date, some on model year, some on when it was imported, some on when it was sold the first time, and in some states you get to choose. It just so happens that the state that created a title fo this car the first time went off when it was sold, in 1975, so it has a '75 title.

We don't inspect anything in Michigan (that I've ever heard of) so don't expect whether it was titled here or not to mean anything as far as mechanicals go.

My guess is... it's a 74 model. The big bumpers say 74. The windshield washer squirters say 74. The engine compartment indicates an FI system never was installed in this car. The build date of 12/73 says its a 74.
Glad I didn't step in it....

Changing the year of the car??
If this car is, as OldOpelGuy said, actually a 73 model and sat on a showroom floor until 75 so was titled as a 75, then if that is the way titling is done, then a different car for sale, that blue 73 showroom Opel GT currently for sale for example, could be sold as a 2008? That doesn't compute. It would seem the year a title is issued shouldn't have anything to do with the year of the car. Maybe there is something else I am missing (other than my marbles).
Gary

Here in Wisconsin, I live in the best of both worlds. I actually live in Walaorth county barely. In the counties to the east and north of me (Waukesha, Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha) all have emissions. I sometimes have to fight if I have a vehicle and title it. There is also another twist to this but that is a longer story...

title year
In most states years ago, the year the vehicle was sold to be registered, was when the title was issued. Jeep used to send the VIN plates to the dealers and THEY stamped them when they sold them. If they sat unsold the build dates on some of them can be years different from the title date. Rich

On the CA registration, there is a block that says year first sold. That's how it's done here, but the year of manufacture is also stated on the registration.

This is it's third time through e-bay.
I was high bidder on the previous 2 auctions, although it did not reach reserve. I will try to be high bidder again this time, but I still don't think it will make reserve...

Looks like some dents in the hood on the driver's side and at the left rear side marker. Besides the rust on the right quarter, it's hard to see what's going on or pasted up on the lower edges of the panels or jack points. Gotta love the bug guts green and those seat covers.
Rob, how many Opels do you have now and what's up with the '72 Rallye you showed us at Carlisle? Jim

Hey Jim,
I'm at 20 complete cars and 3 'remains' at the moment... ![]() The Rallye is 'sleeping' under cover for the Winter, and while I mess around with some non-Opel projects: 1965 Winchester Taxi 1980 Checker Marathon 1989 Cadillac Sedan Deville I think the Green Wagon will go nicely with "Green Eh", my '74 Signal Green Manta....

Those seats must be in really bad condition to leave those seat covers on.
Rob, would you show the car with those covers?

So who won the auction? Good to see someone finally hit the reserve. It will be interesting to see what happens to this car.

They would go great with a set of fuzzy dice and a furry steering wheel cover... but not on any of my cars.
