Orginal wire on left side headlight

My uncle and I were swapping headlights on his 74 Ascona Wagons today. I noticed this wire on his green one that was located on the right side headlight in the top-right screw hole. I took it out and thought...huh. Must be from a body shop. Then I noticed the same piece of wire on his blue wagon in the exact same place. It is painted the same color as the car and about an inch and a half long. Has anyone else noticed it? Is it original, from the factory?
