Unanswered: New tyres and rims
:![]() ![]() ![]() The rims were completely sanded to bare metal sprayed with a rust binder, then sprayed with a mild wash primer and then the front was sprayed semi-gloss black [did this a few months ago] last Saturday I masked the black parts and sprayed the rims silver

I have done that job a couple of times, too. It is some work, but well worth it. Looking good, Erick.

Those are the stock, on 1975 Mantas/Asconas only, 5.5x13" Rostyle wheels
with eight slots vs the earlier 5x13 4 long slot wheels that came on Manta's. They are designed to clear the bigger front brakes on the '75's but they fit the 71-74 Asconas/Mantas like a glove. The GT's got 4 slots too but with a different offset. BTW. I just had 205-60/13 Sumitomo HTR 200's put on my '75 Rostyles at several peoples recommendations on the forums and they are a great setup to improve handleing ride and lower gearing a bit from stock 3:44 to 1 with the 165-80/13 tires, to an effective 3:55 to 1 with the 205-60's. They Make my automatic manta feel a little more peppy too. Cheap too. About $300 for 4 shipped from tirerack.com, mounted and Hunter Road Force Balanced locally by one of the racks recommended installers. Even though they are sold as a summer tire, they actually work okay in the snow the day I drove back from the installer.

Congratulations they look very well, but these wheels and center cup was not from the Ascona/Manta A.
The Manta/Ascona A rally type had only 4 holes and not double 4 groups of holes. The center cup had black background on a crome arc and Aluminiun Opel logo. Your wheels and cup are from Ascona/Manta B |

His center cups may not be Manta A/Ascona A but, his 13x5.5" wheels are. They were used on 1975 Manta A's and Ascona A's to clear the larger front brake calipers. Here is another pic of mine on my 1975 Manta including the optional beauty rings. Not sure which markets besides NA got them.

Hee,hee. Unfortunately it had, and was still, snowing the morning I took it to the tire shop to have my new Sumitomo's from Tire rack installed. Actually for
them being only summer tires the HTR200's worked pretty well in about four inches of the white stuff. That will be the last snow it sees in a goodwhile. I hope.

I had two versions of the Ascona and Manta A parts catalogue, and on the wheels group show two types of wheels, one with a chrome cup and the rallye type and with these configuration.
Opel Forums My car is from 1974 and had the wheels had this shape Also I inform that some time ago I buy an Ebay item, from USA that is this center cups, as we see on the picture. Last edited by roger morgan; 01-02-2009 at 07:12 PM. |

Many times on these forums I've seen people incorrectly identify wheels but I've never bothered to set the record straight. So, and maybe this is what your saying, your 1974 wheels as you show in your picture in the trunk is the 1973 and 1974 4-slot "Rostyle" design wheel. Also the 1975 8-slot I have on my Manta and 2 fast 4 U are the Opel 8-slot "Rostyle" wheel and not the Rallye or Rally wheel design. I'm posting a picture of the Rallye wheel below. The Rally wheel name originated in 1967 with the Chevrolet Camaro and this design of wheel that came with it's optional Rallye Package. The name has stuck since with any wheel of this design. The Rostyle design originated on the late 60's and early 70's MGB and MG Midget. Iirc, Rostyle was a design firm that originated this type of stamped steel 4 and 5 spoke slotted wheel. Just setting the record straight if there is any misunderstanding. The wheel on this silver Manta below is the Opel 15 hole Rallye wheel design with large chrome center and came on the '71, '72 and '73 Manta Rallye and also, I believe, the GT in some years.

Anybody from Europe can confirm this? Here in Portugal all "A" had as the wheels as my Ascona A. The 8 holes are from B's Ascona and Manta. Rallye type or style was the wheels as the picture and as the parts catologue tells. http://www.opelgt.com/forums/attachm...a-1900-s-4.jpg The "Rostyle" wheel was the british wheels as the Ford Capri, some MGB and others. The Opel wheels are not Rostyle's. Meanwhile the design was similar. USA members can confirm that 75 Ascona and Manta A imports had the "B" type wheels (with 8 square holes). You are sure about this? Here are stock 72 GT wheels and tires from Pep Boys. I think they are referred to as rallye wheels.
