Unanswered: wagon prices
My question is approx. how much is a good price for a wagon? Did any of you buy them in restored/ unrestored condition or running/ non running condition. What is a good or normal price on lets say a running model that may need some work?. I have seen one for sale and the asking price is alot over what i think it might be worth. Just kinda curious.

Can you give details? What is the asking price, and can you supply pictures. I have 3 Sportwagons, one 74 is my wife's, I paid $300 for it and all it needed was an interior. My 74 I bought for $2000, and it was in nice shape. My current daily driver is a 75, and I paid $3250 for it and it's in excellent shape.

wagon in question
The wagon i saw for sale is a 75. There is only one picture.(minneapolis craigslist--opal) It is of the passenger rear area. Asking price was 4900.00 person states 36,000 actual miles good inside and out. Just wondering what normal prices were.

Well from the picture, it looks like it has been stored inside for a while, as it's covered in dust. It doesn't say in the article, nor can you see whether it's auto or manual, or if it has a/c. The F.I> cars run great. The main thing, even with low miles, is checking the battery box UNDER the battery for rust, then the jack point right there under the car. With the low miles, it "should" run good, but, that's to be seen and heard in person. If it has never been wrecked, and the paint is all original and glossy, the motor runs good, and which ever trans doesn't leak, it's a good start, but, from sitting so long, the brake lines and brakes need to be looked at. If it's a manual trans, it "may be" the original clutch, but, who knows. The best thing to do, if it's not far, arrange a meet, and if you can, take a mechanic friend with you, and take your time looking the car over. It would have to be REAL nice, inside and out to be worth asking that kind of money.

2 many projects at the moment
Thanx for your input. I have 2 many projects at the moment. I was just interested in knowing if people would pay the asking price for it. seems a little to much for my taste(but maybe worth it for someone else). My 72 gt came running with a nice body and a truck and a half full of parts for a mere fraction of the price.

It's located in Luck, WI? Good grief! The joke possibilities are endless.
![]() But I can only add to what Gene said in that it probably spent it's life in the northern salt belt and needs to be looked at very closely since our Opels rusted just as fast as everything else back then, except Vegas which rusted twice as fast. It may be one that was cared for or even rustproofed and worth considering. I bought my 1975 Manta out of MN but it spent most of it's 38000 miles in WI, also, but was Ziebart rust proofed when new and survived pretty much unrusted including the battery box Gene mentioned. It's probably worth a look, but it still seems a bit high in price unless it's really crean and/or has air conditioning. I paid $3500 for my Manta without AC but later added it.

If this wagon is clean, rustfree ,straight and interior w/o tears, - the asking price is a real bargain ( I wish I live closer
).With and w/o A/C. Not many good wagons left, like the red one attached or the 73 Wagon with 9k original miles from Ron S. in Flagstaff/AZ. Cheaper project cars from $ 500+ will be not very hard to find. |

Keep in mind too that scrap steel has gone up to the point that a junk car, even an Opel, is worth almost $200. It's keeping the prices up for the decent cars and the rest are getting crushed.

Too Much
FWIW - Vickie now owns the Opel wagon that I bought back in 2002 from Jim Marchitto. It's probably the most pristine wagon in the US today. (original, not restored) It was a California car, 100% rust free, with original paint and never hit. I didn't pay that much for it and I didn't get that much when I sold it. I find it hard to believe this car would rival that California wagon. The asking price sounds like wishful thinking to me.

I talked to "Mike" earlier today, and found out a few more things about the Wagon. First, it's automatic, second, no a/c. The fuel pump and a few sensors were recently replaced. A couple of the guages do not work. The car was originally owned by an elderly gentleman who drove it mostly to a park to bring his bicycle. The Wagon was not driven during thewinter, so there's no rust. The elderly owner developed Alsheimers and forgot which way the hood opened, so he tried prying it open, which resulted in the hood being replaced and painted, along with painting the tops of the fenders, so the paint doesn't exactly match. The price is negotiable, how much, I don't know. The seller is not computer savy, so they don't have e-mail, contact by phone.

I saw your Kadett (the white one) on a german vintage car ad board . As far as I can remember, the asking price was Euro 4500.-. (Converted to $$ ,4500 Euros are about 7000 USD.) Less the fees for tax , shipping, and handling (total appr 3000.- usd) , I think the dude didn´t lost money..... Last edited by OpelGT-de; 07-07-2008 at 08:03 AM. Reason: . |

I thought it would have made more than a $1500 profit on it. They were the only people that wanted to buy the car. I had to practically give it away..considering the condition.
