Answered: Complete Gasket and Seal Replacement

Does anyone know all the parts needed to do a complete gasket and seal replacement on a 2 door Ascona Sedan? Specifically, how much chrome and black trim (do I need both?), how many connectors and which ones, which gaskets and seals are must have's and which are not. How many mounting clips do I need? There are 2 type of side window gaskets on Dr. Manta's website so I'm a bit confused there also. I see angle connectors for the Manta but not the Ascona. I have what looks to be the exact ones on my Ascona. I'm curious if I can just request a complete kit from Dr. Manta.

If you're doing a "stock" look, you'll need the front and rear gasket that takes the "chrome" locking strip. If you like the blacked out look, then get the black locking strip, both the chrome and black locking strips, you'll need 4 meters each for front and back windshields, meaning you'll need 8 meters.

I like the look of the black trim. It doesn't look like Dr. Manta sells black connectors for the black trim. Also, can anyone tell me if this Dr. Manta part number 01500053 is for both the right and left door seal? And how many mounting clips are needed for the door gasket?

I wish I knew what kind of condition all the seals and gaskets are in. Right now my car is in the shop. I'll have to stop by there tomorrow or Monday to see exactly what I need. Right now I'm assuming I'll need everything then crossing off what I don't need once I have a look. I'll keep you in mind opeletti.

I did the black locking strip on my Sportwagon, but, I didn't use the connector. I just trimmed it real close, so there's hardly a noticable gap, looks like one piece. You can also get the chrome connectors and paint them black.

I think I'll reuse the connectors I have and paint them black like you said or do exactly what you did and trim them close.

the connectors are aluminum, take some course sand paper and scuff the surface, then primer them, then paint them black, they'll stay black longer.

Thanks for the painting tip. I have one connector on the front and two angle connectors on the back. Will I need more than this?

Great, Do you happen to know how many mounting clips are needed for the door seals on a 2 door Ascona? Also, are the right and left door seals the same?

Hmmm, not right off the top of my head, but, let me check my parts car tomorrow when I get home, and I'll let you know. The door seals are left and right specific
