Cigarette lighter light

My cigarette lighter light stays on even when the headlight switch is off. When it sits for any length of time it draws the battery down. I assume this should go on an off with the headlight switch. Anybody out there encounter this problem or have an idea on a fix??

Re: Cigarette lighter light

Paul , according to my DESTEC schematic, the lites for you cigar lighter should only come on when the parking lites or headlights are on and the lite dimmer switch is powered by either of those systems. The wiring for those two lites is direct from the lite dimmer switch, so if they are on with the parking lite and headlights off, they are getting a DC source from where they shouldn't. I physically checked the wiring on my 72 instrument panel that's out of the car and they are wired according to the DESTEC schematic. HTH.
