Thumbs up Unanswered: An Ascona to keep the Manta's company...

Well, after what seems like forever on the train from Fort McMurray in Alberta, all the way to Toronto, the '72 Ascona is finally here....
....and am I a happy camper!!!
Minimal rust (battery box, touch on front screen surround)....NO DINGS!
This is one straight little car!
Starts right up on the key, manual choke, carb the size of a thimble (1.6 remember).
It's going to need the electrics sorted (fuse box is toast), brakes and shocks are shot, front seats need to be recovered (anyone got NOS red seat covers?), and of course the window seals are all dried out (side rear ones are the worst).
I figure I'll get the buffer out this week, and put a shine on her....then brakes this coming weekend....
Had a quick look underneath...in the areas where the underseal is coming off....virgin white paintwork!!! WOOHOO!!
I'll probably add to the list of things to do....but I am suitably impressed with what I have as a starting point.
So there we go.....another oddball Opel joins the gang.....hehe....funny thing, quite a few of the neighbours seem to be moving away....can't be anything I'm doing....can it???
Oh yeah.....I left work early today to collect the Ascona...so I didn't get caught up with the Air France A340 that went off the runway...thankfully no fatalities.
Cheers, Rob.

Way ahead of you Rob.
Thought of you when I heard about that plane. Glad you were not around.

Nice ride Rob!!
So when does the 5-spd go in? LOL! It needs a set of ATS to jazz it up just a bit.

The ATS wheels are "ATS classic"....
The Alleycats are aftermarket rims that were sold in the UK in the 70's and 80's (Baz will remember them!)...
I thought it would be nice to keep any mods on the Ascona to period items.
ANyway....Ya made me go up to the attic (which is like a billion degrees today)....and retrieve the wheels...so the least I could do is attach a pic....

Rob;
Sorry about that trip to the attic, that only means a trip to the local pub to cool off with a tall cold one. Those wheels will look great on the Ascona. and those Cobra tires are just about period correct too, if they're not dry rotted.

Hopefully they are just fine, I had this set stored alongside the Broadspeed set, on initial inspection they still look perfect.
Now if I could just find period gas prices, I'd be set!!
