Problems with forum change after a while
After a while it takes a lot of time to change from one topic to an other, and when that has been going on for a while I can't change from one topic to an other, the only option I have is to go to an other site [or sites] and come back several minutes later every thing works right again, and then the story starts again. also I've been dealing with the problem when I'm typing a posting some how I receive a fault notice, and have to shut down my browser and my unfinished posting is gone [same thing happened to Baz]. Its driving me NUTS!!!! [and that is an understatement]

Time - Out
Even on the 'old' server the appeared to be a "Time-out" function which automatically logged posters off after some period of inactivity - and typing a reply to a post seems to be seen as 'inactivity!
So I don't think this is a 'bug' in the new set-up as it has always been there. On long posts I simply hit reply or save before finishing the bring the post back up and continue under Edit. Sometimes, when I have been long-winded, I just block what I have written, press "Ctrl C" to save it temporarily and if the site has timed out on me I just log back in and repost by using "Ctrl V" which retrieves the blocked bit of text - don't have to retype then!

I submitted another trouble ticket to the host. The last response I received earlier today was: We have made several configuration and hardware changes
today in order to assess the problem you have been having. We are also currently in the process of performing additional hardware upgrades to ensure long-term reliability of your server. At the current time everything should be operating without issue. |

Posting reply times are no better today than they were yesterday or the day before . . . in a word, awful! If the host is saying that the problem is resolved, somebody is not being truthful here, Gary. Log-ons are also still slow as molasses, not all the time, but at least 50% of the time.
Didn't experience any of this with the "old" server. JM2CW

i never had a time out on the old server. i know one time i left myself logged in and forgot to close the browser and then went to class and work. got home 15 hours later and i was still on and able to do things without loggin in again. i dont have any log in problems, cuz i make it that the site saves my user name and password. so when i go to the site its all logged in for me.

Just logged on and have no problem with the load times between viewing threads, or posting a reply, although I noticed the e-mail notifications is gone again. Oh well, two steps forward, one back.

Here is the response i received at ~6:00pm today:
Hello Gary, We have identified and dealt with a problem user on the server which was producing an unfair drain on system resources. This should help combat the load spikes you were observing. We also have additional hardware upgrades scheduled for this server in the near future. We appreciate your patience. Please let us know if you run into any further issues. |
