Unanswered: Manta / Kadett / Ascona Heavy Duty Rear Axles
I am gauging interest in having fully floating axles made for the Manta. I am currently discussing the viability of producing fully floating axles for use in the Opel manta in various specs and widths. Would people be willing to pay the money as they would be priced like the Ford Atlas fully floating axles staring at £2500, but these are serious pieces of kit designed to take quite a bit of torque and bhp, the remove the possibility of brake pad back off ensuring they are always close to the disc ensuring a hard pedal. How they are designed is by removing your std halfshaft / flange set up with the bearing in the axle tubes, welding on thick tubes onto the cwp body, manufacturing a heavy duty stub axle where 2 bearings ride on inside a special alloy hub. HD halfshafts are then made along with a seperate flange and this is then bolted to the alloy hub. Some drawings showing what I mean: http://www.tjmotorsport.co.uk/prodim...er-drawing.jpg http://www.tjmotorsport.co.uk/prodim...ting-tubes.jpg http://www.tjmotorsport.co.uk/prodim...ostek/hubs.jpg The above picture is of an Atlas axle just to give an example. I am also looking into getting CWP sets made in possibly two different ratios. What's everyones favourite or recommended ratio. Also LSDs made for motorsport use. I will only do these if there is enough interest and have the axle builder ready to start as he has already made the drawings ready for the parts to be made. The PCD will be Ford though as it is easier and cheaper to use Ford fully floating parts and adapt as required. I can however get front hubs made in alloy and have either Vauxhall or Ford PCDs done on them making it easier, ensuring one set of wheels will be okay not like in the 70/80s where Chevettes etc had to have two sets of wheels, one Vauxhall PCD for the front and one Ford PCD for the rear. I really need your feedback on this idea as I am ready to go ahead and have already invested time into this? I look forward to your comments. Regards Tim TJ Motorsport |

hi tim from the mod team
for most of the folks on here you are looking at people in the USA so the cost would need to include a shipping quote can you tell us how many you would need to do to make it worth while ? a time line for delivery from date of order if you go ahead and would you do an ad in the free ad section as we have just started a new sales policy and need every one to work within it (see http://www.opelgt.com/forums/news/10072-new-rules.html) thanks ps i would make mention of the kadett panels and other stuff you do then add another phone line and answering m/c

Apologies for putting it in this section. I am only gauging interest at the moment not actually offering them for sale.
Timeline you would probably be looking at a 4 - 6 week turnaround and P&P to America would be quite steep as you all know the axle weighs quite a bit. I will however investigate that a bit further. Regards Tim |
