Unanswered: S10 clutch OK for race 2.7CIH?

Hi to all,
I am planning a S10 clutch conversion for one of my race CIH,
OK that's daily life for you guys,
But please remember I live on the other side of the pond! (France, Europe).
The engine will be a 2.7 race CIH,
I don't know how much torque this one will output,
Probably something like 25-27mkg (Bob what do you think?).
Do you think the S10 clutch is strong enough for this application,
I will be using a metal-pads clutch disk.
Is there some very heavy duty S10 clutch available?
Any idea welcome as usual!
Cheers from Paris,
Hiro

Hiro, no problem holding that much torque with a 'heavy duty' disc. I used a sprung-hub ceramic-metallic disc with a standard pressure plate (I seem to recall it was made by 'Zoom' clutches, but I'm not sure) (EDIT: It was made by RAM clutches), and it held fine for 3 years at 8500-8800 rpms for racing use. I only changed the clutch for something lighter (5.5" double disc).

Remember this standard version clutch was made to last for 300,000 km with a 2.8 litre V6 engine, on a vehicle weighing 1400 kg, capable of carrying another 680 kg of cargo! So with a stronger disc I think anything you put in front of it that is CIH-powered will be fine!

I designed and had made a custom flywheel some years ago for a 3.0 litre 24V 6-cylinder in a Manta A out in California. I used the S10 clutch for that car too, and as far as I know it's still running.

Thanks Bob!
I read quite a lot about S10 using the search tool,
But data were generally for race 1.9/2.0 CIH,
So I wanted to be sure about bigger CIH.
Very tough clutch indeed!
Here the equivalent stuff from Sachs is too expensive for me...
Cheers,
Hiro

There are two types of S10 clutches, standard and "severe duty" as is use in the four wheel drive application. The latter has differant lining material on the disc and the pressure plate has heavier springs, hence more clamping power.

Thanks!
I will think about this severe duty version for my race 6 cyl CIH,
These will probably be about 30-35mkg.

Heavy duty RAM clutch for Chevy S10
Hi!

I'm also converting a 24v in an a series manta, I use a bmw dogleg getrag from 635csi e24bmw..., can I use the s10 clutch and convert the hart of the clutch (14splines <->10 splines) or is there an alternative clutch?
I made a one-mass flywheel, with 6point patern...

I also did this a few months ago. I used the S-10 pressure plate, but had a custom 9.125" diameter disc made but with the correct 10-spline center for a Getrag 265. Custom Getrag 265 disc

Hope this helps.
