Unanswered: S10 HD clutch

Hi to all,
Is this HD S10 clutch a good part for our race CIHs?
eBay Motors: Chevy S10 / GMC S15 Heavy Duty Ceramic Button Clutch (item 8015615477 end time May-10-07 16:36:20 PDT)
It's quite cheap so I was wondering it might be identical to std specs,
Is it really a HD version?
Hiro

2.8 L

Hiro, Since it is for thew 2.8L (V6) motor and a truck it looks to be a real HD item - especially with the ceramic 'buttons' on the disc.
Just check with the seller that it is 9 1/8" in diameter.

BTW: Isuzu SUVs have the Chevy V6 in them too so clutches for them are the same ... or very similar.

Yes this looks OK,
I was wondering about the ceramic stuff,
As I've never used this disk type before.
Thanks Jim!

Ceramic ....

Ceramic clutches will take heaps of abuse and don't chew into the flywheel like sintered bronze ones do - so they are pretty good.

Yes, but there is no slipping it, when it starts to engage you had better have the car car pointed where you want to go because it is either engaged or disengaged. Only problem I see with the clutch is if it does not have heavy duty springs on the fingers of the diaphram they tend to flatten out at high RPM but that would only be in a racing situation over 7500 RPM.

Based on the , no slip comment, I just ordered my second LUK Gold clutch package to go with my new ali flywheel for my 2.2 modified motor. The first one is paired with a standard flywheel that was machined flat, drilled, and balanced. Guess I will have to find another use for it.

The standard $80 duralast clutch should be good for most any thing that a cih can throw at it.

HD clutch

The 2.8 S-10 clutch has plenty of grip for a street motor and is much less harsh that the ceramic "pucked" disc. Unless you are going to road race or rally the car where you are using the clutch and up shifting and downshifting a lot heat will not be a factor. Spend the extra money and get the flywheel down around 16 pounds and balance the crank, flywheel and harmonic balancer for a smoother reving engine. If you want to balance the rest of the bottom end that can be done on a shadow graph scale as the rods and pistons only need to be within 1/2 to 1 gram of each other.

Hiro
thanks everybody for your input!
I'm gradually changing all my clutches for S10 units,
my cars & CIH are pretty different from one to another,
so I need to collect lots of infos & try to keep cost as low as possible...
my CIH are 4 cyl or 6 cyl with displacement 2.3 to 3.4
outputs are from 160hp to hopefully more than 300hp with max rev from 7500rpm to more than 9000rpm,
most of the cars are for racing & fun-race club events.
as far as possible I would like to stick to 2-3 different S10 clutch options & avoid expensive multiple disk setups,
because flywheel machining is very easy for the S10 unit,
remember machining is very expensive here in France!

Flywheels!

Hiro, Sounds like you NEED a whole batch of Unorthodox racing Ali flywheels!
Only $US2,000 for six of them - Cheaper than getting stock ones machined in France ... now there is a new President there!

Those ceramic button S10 clutches are pretty 'sudden' but would be OK for racing ... and probably hold 300 HP.

you're right Jim!
the only problem is where do I find $2,000 for the flywheels alone...
my company still owes me a lot of € back from 2004,
but our beloved new President did not say a word about it yesterday!
in other words "just work like hell & let someone else harvest the money"...
