Unanswered: 5-speed box for a 1970's Manta A

hi peoples
iv searched around and havnt REALLY found anything usefull for what i want.

i wana know, for a very basic mod, would the bellhousing of a 5-speed Ascona fit that of a 1900 Manta A motor?
and, would i need to do any mods to the drive shaft?

any help or advise would be highly apreciated.

The common conversion uses a getrag 240. The transmission and bell housing do not separate. If it fits behind a CIH engine in an Ascona A then you can swap it directly over to a Manta A body with a CIH engine. They are virtually the same car with a different skin.

P.S. This site has a great search engine and this has been covered extensively in previous posts. The forum is laid out similar to the factory service manual but with additional categories for aftermarket carbs, performance modifications, engine swaps, etc.

As Harold has mentioned, there are lots of threads about 5 speed conversions (81 to be precise, by a quick search of "5 speed" in this Forum). If you are asking if the Manta B 5 speed Getrag from a 2.0 fits a Manta A 1.9, then the answer is yes. All CIH engines use the same bellhousing bolt pattern. But no, the rear transmission mount is different, as is the driveshaft. But it's fairly easy to adapt, with the driveshaft from an automatic shortened, and using the automatic's rear mount.

Something I noticed is that not all of the bolts line up on my Omega A 2.4i engine and 1.9l bellhousing.

There are also ZF 5 speeds available in Europe. They are expensive but are very durable and a perfect bolt up solution. Otherwise if money is a concern then the getrag 240 is a good choice.
