Unanswered: 5 speed Getrag shifter knob removal

I want to remove the shifter knob that came with my 5 speed. It doesn't un-screw, so I'm guessing it's kind of a press fit. Do you just muscle it off?

If you have the muscles, yes, easier way would be to take a box knife and make two slits.

If you find a knob you like, but, it doesn't have the proper shift pattern, let me know, I have some sheets of aluminum with the correct shift pattern engraved on them.

If you are going to try to muscle it off, dunking it in a pan of boiling water for a minute or so will make it easier (be sure to wear a glove, or it will raise a blister)

This is how I got rid of the original knob and shortened the shifter, if you are interested in putting an aftermarket knob with a thread inside.

The shift knob that came with my Getrag simply had a set screw. I just slid down the plastic sleeve that was hiding it, loosened it off and the knob came right off. I'd check before you go forcing anything.
