Unanswered: Getrag 265

I have a Getrag 265 that I want to put into my Manta A. Anyone have ideas of how I can get a bell housing and a shifter for this trans at a reasonable price?

Thanks,
Rick

Rick;
It might be that you have to go overseas to get those items. If you're lucky, OGTS "might" have them.

I got a bellhousing for this gearbox. maybe I also got the shifter. Can you take some photos of your gearbox so I can see what part you need for the shifter?

Getrag makes a lot of trannys. The 1994 cavalier is transversly mounted though so it's not going to work in a GT.

the best getrag gearbox is the 260 serie(262/265). its originally mounted in opel senator/monza 3,0i. you can also find someone in manta 400 but they are wary rare and wery expensive. and they are 1:1 on the 5th gear.
for you USA buyers it must be much better to use a tremec gearbox in your GTs. even i am going to buy a tremec gearbox for my GT,and the getrag gearbox is much more availably for me and the tremec is less availible here in norway..
a cheaper alternative for you who dont have so much power is the getrag 240gearbox. this is originally mounted in the manta GT/E and GSi,and also many other opels. this one you can get for about 250-300usd here in norway and its wery easy to get one.

(sorry for my bad english)

John, any idea what would be the easiest and best choice for a transmission change in a GT? Right now its an automatic but would prefer a 5 speed. I'm located in Europe.

With an auto in there you have some of the bits needed for the 5-speed Getrag 240 conversion. The box you need is in some Opel engined Vauxhall Cavaliers & Carlton plus in Opel Mantas etc. from about 1975 through 1988.
Rear Wheel Drive ones!

Have a good read through this thread:

http://opelgt.com/forums/showthread....t=Getrag+speed

Then do a bit of searching for "Getrag 5 speed" in the Search function at the top of these pages for more info before you make up your mind.

Vauxhall Cavalier and Carlton...AKA Opel Rekord and Ascona? Is the Getrag 240 located in any other European Market car? Would a 5 speed from a '87 BMW 318 fit?

rstrel;
In a word, "no", the bellhousing configuration is different, but, the innards are the same as the 240 5-spd for the Opel.
