Question Unanswered: Stock 72 gt rear axle

Im looking to transplant a nissan sr20det into my opel. Just wondering if the transfer case will hold? The motor will prob put out a little over 300hp. Im guessing the rear end will not hold, dose anyone have any ideas for a rear end?

High HP rearend

Narrowed up 9" FOOOOOOOOOOOOrd or 12 bolt GM will both get it done. If you want to narrow it yourself as opposed to buying a housing 8 3/4" MOPAR will also stay with you, and they can be had pretty easy because Chrysler put them in everything. F0000000000000rd and MOPAR are hogshead type and 12 bolt is rear loader.

Diff

There is nothing that will fit the original suspension except the Opel diff due to the torque tube.
A 10-bolt from a late Camaro or Firebird has nice rear discs and would be strong enough but needs major suspension mods.

Sure, if you put the stock wheels and tires on, the diff should be fine.

The cost of tires might be prohibitive, though! From what I hear, the stock diff is good for about 150hp, max.

The Opel diff is a 6 1/2" diff the Camaro a 7.5"/7.625" crown wheel while the 12 bolt is 8.5" As they get bigger they get stronger. The poor wee spyder gears inside the Opel 6.5" diff won't take more than about 150hp - and not that if one wheel is spun for any length of time.

Just put "Diffs" in the Search box that drops down at the top of the page and see what turns up. There is HEAPS of info on this subject.

Here is one good thread: http://www.opelgt.com/forums/engine-...ighlight=Diffs

There is also a good one about using a BMW 320 or 325i rearend. Major modifications, but you get Limited Slip, Disk Brakes, Independent rear suspension, coil over shocks, and many choices of gear ratios.
