Unanswered: Gt V-8

Has anyone have experience with a V8 engine build in GT? In the Netherlands once was someone with an Rover V8 in his GT. Nice job, original body without extensions. You could not see it from the outside, but, ofcourse, it had a wonderfull V8 sound. I was thinking of having a V8 engine in my GT, not for performance.

i thinks theres oh what 30 odd threads about V8 gt's and can it be done , time to search the engine swop forum and the performance forum

a general answer is any engine of any size will go in all it takes is skill or money
if you have one or the other it can be done
until i found damage in it beyond that which was worth fixing i was putting a V12 in my gt

as i say skill or money is all it takes

if only being done for the sound then a V6 or straight 6 might be an easier option for you

Nothing beats the sound of a V8

V6 is not as long as a 4 in line but a bit wider, there would be a good front space to enhance cooling, with a 6 in line you would have to change a lot in the front of the car [jmtcw]

BTW what is the smallest V8 and in which car is it used?????

A cutting torch and a sledge hammer also comes in handy. I wish I had a nice Rover V8 to go in Manta along with a Doug Nash 5 speed transmission. If you are looking to put a V8 in an Opel, find you a Diplomat it had a 5.4 liter (327 cubic inch) small block Chevrolet from the factory along with a turbo 400 automatic transmission and a fully independent rear suspension. The field is then wide open to swap in any small block Chevrolet and any Chevrolet automatic transmission with little or no fabrication or modification to the structural part of the car(IMHO)

Heavy!

The 2.5 litre Daimler V8 is a very heavy motor with a large cast iron block and wide 'Hemi' heads - about 200 lbs heavier than the larger capacity (3.5 to 5.2 litre!!) Buick/Rover all-alloy V8. Also extremely expensive to get parts for it.
