IIRC you have a 1975 Ascona, correct? All the US Ascona's came with a 3.44 final drive in the rear axle. Transmission ratios as follows:
4-speed 1st: 3.428:1 2nd: 2.156:1 3rd: 1.366:1 4th: 1.00:1 Reverse: 3.317:1 Automatic 1st: 2.40:1 2nd: 1.48:1 3rd: 1.00:1 Reverse: 1.91:1 Of course, with the hydraulic coupling of the torque converter, there is no true mechanical lockup, so the transmission is always 'slipping' to a degree, dependent on load. This can usually be anywhere from 200-400 rpms higher than a manual transmission. Bob |
