Unanswered: Best Engine for Cheap??

Hi, I currently purchased a 1973 Opel GT and I'm pretty new to these European cars and was wondering if someone could tell me what kind of engine/trans i should drop into this car to make it fly at a rather cheap price with little modifications?

Use the search option, there are a bazzilion options you can chose from.
What do you consider as "cheap". One may find $100 cheap or $30,00 cheap. What do you think is cheap?

There are a lot of inexpensive options, all are a lot of work for a GT.

A high compression engine would be an improvement and really wouldn't cost that much money, but probubly wouldn't be the performance that your looking for. 71-73 GTs had low compression motors, 69-70 had high compression motors.

2.4/2.2 Opel engine is easy and relatively inexpensive. These have a good bit more power. Talk to OGTS about these. They're import engines.

If you have to do a swap look at the Willt? Thread, look at the 2.3 NA/2.3 Turbo Ford swaps that have been done, look at the rotory swaps, and also some of the SBC and V6 swaps.

I'll toot my own horn here and suggest you look in the Articles and Projects Section for my 7 Phases of installing a 60 degree 3.4L V-6/B-W T-5 in my 72 GT, Willit?. Not a plan for the faint of heart or minimal mech skills, with small pockets or short of time.
