what motor for engine swap should i use

i want to do an engine swap, but, i dont want to but big drag racing slicks in the back and things like that, which i would probably have to do if i put in a chevy 350.
I was thinking of something a little smaller i mean the car only weighs 1700lbs (i think) and with a 350 you can just put wings on the car and you will fly, mabey a vtec from a prelude or that twin turbo 1.3L from the rx-7. What do you guys think is best

We can best help you by suggesting you take a good look at the "engine swap" forum. This will take you a long time, and when you're done reading the vast amount of information you will know all about how to do it. And which engines fit best, and how much work it is, and how much it costs, and how many such ambitions end up in the junkyard.
Your exact same question is asked here at least twice a week and all the answers are located in the forums.
Enjoy the reading! There are now 303 threads about it.

One of the rules here is one thread per topic (and no multi-Forum postings), so I merged this post back here.

As mentioned above, the topic of engine swaps is discussed in 303 threads with 5000 posts in this Forum heading. No, there is no "kit" or easy way to do this, just lots of planning, designing and hard work, not to mention substantial expense. Please have a look and read at least a few of the threads, and when you have a question that is a bit more specific, feel free to ask away. I find it helps to "sort" the Forum threads by "Replies" and "Views" (just click on the column headings to sort) and then start at the ones with the most of each.

What that will show is the best thread to read (and it will take a while at 838 replies, which is why it has 45,000 views!) is:

    HTH and good luck.

I don't know how long you have owned your Opel or how much time you have behind the wheel, but don't think you have to swap engines to have fun in these cars. I went for a great ride yesterday - the tires were squealing and the car was flying down the highway and all with the 1.9L engine (with high compression pistons and Weber carb). I'm in no way trying to dissuade you from following your dream for the car but you can get some good performance and fun out of the "stock" engine. Just food for thought...

You can put any engine you want inside the GT's engine bay as long as you plan it properly, have the right tools and have the $$$ that will go along with it.

I have installed several engines on different GT's, the end result is always the same. The customer has a rocket to play with and his savings account went down several notches.
