Unanswered: TDI in to Manta

I am going to do this.... It's just sourcing the parts I need. I am going to use a T-5 trans and regear the rear to 2.80. I know the original is not this fast even though my car at the moment is automatic.

With the right engine mods I will be able to put down 300 lb/ft at the wheel, and well over 180 hp. And still get 50 mpg out on the road.

If there are any suggestions on where to get pedal parts, gears, and a good transmission source that would be great.

If they were readily available we would all be swapping diesels in our cars.

You have to make the trans adapters and controls yourself. I believe there are places that make different rear end ratios, however they would be quite pricey.

Depending on how bad you want it, cost is not always an issue

first question i have is which engine are you thinking of using ? it may come in a rwd configuration so all the hard work is done for you if you use there box instead of the T5

second question is why would you want to use such a high diff ratio it will kill all of the + points of having the power and torque
from a tdi

if money is not a worry then get a bmw diesel from an omega and slot it in
all the power smoothness and torque you could want or need but they go for big euros

btw the rear axle of the gt /kadett/ascona and manta will die way before anything else with those numbers so you might want to look for a rover SD1 Vitesse diff unit and case and have the opel axle tubes welded in this will deal with the power

First, the VW TDI isn't available in any rear drive applications.
Second, the gearing is high to get the 70-75 mph rpm down around the sweet spot of the engine, which would be 2200. I haven't really set down and done the math yet, but I think it will have to be fast.
Money can be an issue. The reason for the TDI, is I bleed VW and Opel

On the rear diff. This is why I posted. That is a good idea. I was kinda worried about the torque throse little gears. I will have to look into that.
The other thought I had was maybe putting in the rear suspension/subframe out of 3 series BMW. The only problem I see there is getting the two front mounts mounted to the car.

Enough for now.

The VW TDI can be configured to RWD. In the past, we have pondered using an adapter from Acme Adapters with a Suzuki 5 speed in an Opel GT or Opel Manta. Check this thread out for some additional comments:

Now this i like! I looked at acme's site. You can use the toyota truck trans and a tdi engine out of say the 98 golf here in the states and make this work.

We finished a swap in a corolla using a mr2 engine and with an adapter used the toyota truck trans. The car tuned made 550 whp. Using the stock rear end. It holds up to drift events with no problems.

What i was thinking is going with this swap. The only thing that i wanted to know is the measurements of the engine. I think the injection pump will sit ok to clear the brake master. What i do not know is the placement of the intake manifold if it will clear the engine bay since it rests with so much angle.

On a side note. I think the rear end from a 85-87 corolla gts will work with modifications and allow you to have rear lsd and rear disc brakes.

God im kicking myself now since i had a TDI engine here at the shop.
