Unanswered: Manta with gsi

hi,
i have a 1974 Manta A, i want to remove the 1900 motor and 4 speed box, and put in a 1800 or 2000 GSI with 5 speed box.

this will require a rear wheel drive box and i have no idea what to do next...im guessing i will have to put the motor in longitudinally in etc...any help would b greatly appreciated.

ill eventually end up slapping a rotary in it, but that still needs some motivation...

I think, at minimum, there's one motor mount and the exhaust to headpipe connection have to be fabricated.

Garage
The first generation of European Omegas came with the same motor as the 2000 GSI - Omega 2.0i
They have rear wheel drive and the direction of the motor and driveline will be correct already.

If that doesn't work, you can always build a front wheel drive Manta ...

You need the Getrag 240 and the oil pan from a Manta B 1.8 or Rekord E 1.8, their oil pick-up tube, the motor mounts. An alternative would be the gear box from an Omega A 2.0, but the other parts still have to come from a Manta B or Rekord E. The necessary clutch and all other parts can be bought from Lenk Tuning International or from hipo - autotechnik GmbH. You either need to get a short distributor from a Motronic 2.8, or a modification set to mount the distributor sideways, or take out your heater radiator.
