One question I had, is there any market for the original motor and tranny from this car? I have no idea if it runs or not, but it is complete. Well anyway looking forward to chatting with everyone here in the future and I will try not to be a nuisance. |

Welcome to the boards! The search function will be your greatest friend! I know I use it every day.
You may also want to consider a 2.2 or 2.4l swap since they are bolt up replacements for the original engine (no custom fab or sheet metal cutting to make them fit). Either way good luck with your engine swap!

Before you go looney toons on an engine swap, checkout my engine swap Articles to give you an idea of what's required on a 60 degree V-6. Clock on Forum on the main page, then go to Opel Articles. There are 7 Phases of my swap there. To give you an idea for the engine you're thinking about, automatically, you'll have to change the rear-end and tranny. Then a whole lot of sheetmetal cutting and welding. The GT is a unibody and cannot take the torque of a V-8, so substantial beef-up of the body, and subframes will be needed. Not a good idea for those with shallow pockets and little time.

Thanks for the input, I will check out your postings and incorporate what I can. The beauty of the 289 is it is a 90 degree V8 so it is extremely narrow and very light, it only weighs about 300 lbs complete. It is also a very high revving motor, 7000 rpm red line and about 270 bhp. I don't know why more people don't use it, the parts are easy to get and cubic inch for cubic inch its one of the most powerful motors you can use.

What Ron is trying to say is the 60 deg V-6 is narrower than a 90 deg V-8. You're gonna have a helluva time getting it to fit.
