Anyone ever thought of a Rotary Engine Swap?

I was look for some engine swap info we don't appear to have a catagory dedicated to swap or atleast I couldn't find it.

I was thinking about swapping a Rotary Engine from a RX7 into the GT. Thought it was about the right size and would be a neat swap. I would try to find a complete RX7 to use as the donor. Any thoughts?

Hit the search button and type in "rotory engine". This was just discussed two days ago on a long going subject.

NewB, contact Paul Heebink (azopelnut), he's got a rotary in one of his GTs and can give you some realistic info on how it perfroms.

Thanks guys I can't believe I looked all over the site and couldn't find the engine swap section. I took a closer look and it seems like it wouldn't be a big gain. I am going to stick with the 1.9. Thanks Again.

I've got a ported 13b in my GT that puts 150bhp to the back wheels. I beat a Porche Carrera (2000's) off the line and up to about 75 mph - after which he left me like I was standing still. It's a phenominally fun and fast car.

No, that's not a defect, that's a feature.

Really I figured that with a bore job to the 1.9 making a 2.0 and using a header and bigger valves would give me some more hp. I am still in the research phase I would like to have 200hp but I know that is going to take some money and time.

NewB, I may ruffle some feathers here, but HP isn't the best answer, all the time. I've only got 140.3 HP, at the rear wheels, in Willit? But my torque is almost flat line across the RPM range between 160-170 ft. lbs. And it moves out right smartly from just above idle to 6200 rev limiter in the gears I've held it in. To be more specific, you need to have the max torque in the RPM range you drive the most in.

OpelNewb,
Remember hp is just a function of torque over time.

HP=(Torque*RPM)/5252

200hp from a 2.0 is not unrealistic BUT that 200hp is definitely going to be up there in the rpm band. I'm positive my stock 2.4 with 126ps @ 4800rpms (123ish hp) will pull harder at most reasonable speeds than a hopped up 2.0L CIH engine. The reason being that I have access to greater torque at a much lower rpm, that means that at 2000rpm my engine will make more hp than yours. Difference is a 2.0 can rev higher than a 2.4 and results in a greater "peak" horsepower rating.

So peak hp can be misleading and not really make the car faster if all those ponies are way up in the rpm band where you can't use them on the street.

Have you considered a turbo or supercharger? I think cars are a lot more fun to drive when you can step your foot on the gas at any rpm and have it set you back in your seat.... having to wait for my 1.9 to hit 3 - 4k before it really started to pull made me sad.
