Unanswered: Supercharged Ford 3.8

Did anyone ever think about putting the drive train from a Thunderbird Super Coupe in their GT. Supercharged 3.8L V6 with a 5 speed manual tranny. it's got 315ft.lbs. of torque stock. I have a super coupe and that thing gets it and it's a 4000 some pound car. just throwin it out there. i would do it myself into my 70 GT but i just don't have the time

I may be wrong, but, didn't the SC's get the 2.3 4 cyl motor? As for that, we have 2 members here in GA that have done the 2.3 swap, one F.I., the other a turbo.

The Turbocoupe had the 2.3 turbo until 1988, the replacement (new chassis) Thunderbird had a 3.8 V6w/Eaton supercharger.

Ford stuff
One member of the Ga. group with a 2.3 turbo was not tuned right.
The 3.8 thunderchicken was a pitb to work on and theres no way it could be tuned without special software.

I've wanted to put one in a Manta/Ascona. Thunderbirds can be picked up for so cheap right now that you could start a project with a whole donor car. Gt's have VERY little room. It's though enough to swap engines into a GT. THere is barely enough room for the 1.9. If you could find a project that already had a V8 in it, it might not be too bad.

I installed a Buick 3.8L into a GT and ran the car for over 10 years. The Ford engine does present a bit more of a challenge but can be done as well.

You might want to rethink the transmission since the Ford unit is quite long.
