Not So Newb Anymore

Wow it took me along time to read thru all of this thread. I am amazed at all the work you put into it. You took an already interesting car and made it even more so. I Was turned onto this thread by another member cause I made the mention of this sorta swap but I had said 4.3 not 3.4. I was thinking it would be a neat swap as well but from what I can tell it would barely fit into the GT. I think your car is awesome Ron and you have taken the Opel to another level!!

Thanx. If you read the whole thing, then you know it took 7 years to do all of this along with a restoration, that's the time. Knowledge I had came from too many sources to mention, but I got the idea from Mike Pilkenton (V6 Opel) on this site. Cost for this project is still on-going. It seems every time I try and fix a minor problem, that occurs with owning a 36 year old car, I have to get into OGTS' catalog and see if they have what I need. Thanx to Gill and Dennis for the turn signal plate and horn button parts, along with new seat belts. The whole idea of this thread was to show the folks on this site what it takes to do an engine swap. That and the Phases in the Performance Articles to describe the how-to, and to be sure folks that undertake a project like this, what's really involved. It's for sure not a week-end project.

I have had quite a few projects fortunately for me until recently (birth of my son) I have always had lots and lots of spare time. I know though that my Opel will take more time than any of the previous projects cause of the time restraints I now have. Your project has inspired me not to go the swap route albeit tempting to far to time consuming. My wife hopes to be driving this car sometime this decade LOL.
It's good to see someone put forth the effort to do a top notch job. |

Thank you, again. I want to be perfectly clear, there were some things I turned over to the pros, knowing my limits. That in itself, did more to ensure that I have a car that is capable of being a daily driver. One thing I did, was to have a stock engine. So that reliability was maintained. I could have gone the beef up route, but as a general rule of thumb, increased performance usually results in decreased longevity. I sure don't want to go through this again for quite some time. I did spend a lot of time going through everything that was removed. If something was suspect it was repaired or replaced. So I ended up with a brand new old car.
