Unanswered: Is Opel 2.2 Liter Fuel injection a closed loop system ?

Hello,

Is an Opel 2.2 Liter Fuel Injection system a closed loop system ? It does not appear to have an oxygen sensor on the exhaust. If it is an open loop system is there a way to compensate for altitude ?

Thanks Tony

Go to the wiring diagram of the first version L-Jetronic here and look at item #4, an optional altitude compensator. The diagram for the LE used on the 2.2 is the next one and there's no reason t you couldn't wire it into the circuit similarly . . . if you can find one of these. Have never seen one in US to be honest, not even on other cars like Audi, BMW, Saab, Volvo, all of which use very similar LEs.

The problem with that, Otto, is that it relies on pin 12 of the L-Jet ECU for the compensator signal (the other two wires are just power and ground). The LE Jetronic with IAC that's in the 2.2 has a completely different ECU pinout, so there's no way to guess what what pin would be used.

I've got an LE Jetronic system with IAC on my Monza (same as the 2.2 system really) and I'm using an add-on oxygen sensor box from a company called Neutronics Enterprises in San Diego. It modifies the airflow meter signal based on the input from the oxygen sensor.

Unfortunately Neutronics doesn't make the boxes anymore (I asked about 6 months ago) but you might find one if you keep a watch on eBay.

There are some fairly simple mods you could do to the airflow meter or temperature sensor to make the car run leaner, but most states consider that "tampering"...
Cheers,
Nick
