Unanswered: Opinions on FI??

Since I am going to have troubles finding a new weber 32/36, what does anyone think of this FI on ebay?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=4537876864

Should it go on without a hitch? I seem to remember someone mentioning an upgrade would be neeed in the fuel tank as well. Not sure though. Auction has less than 1 day left.

2.0l Fi

That's a nice FI setup. You'd need a fuel tank return line for the fuel rail bypass. That set up would work, but you'lll need a header or a Sprint exhaust manifold for that setup to clear the FI intake.

It'll work on a GT, but you'll need to fab a return fuel line to the tank and get that Sprint manifold from a '75 Manta/Ascona.

Good luck.

This would be for a Manta. How much work is it to fabricate this return line?

It's been Done

Factory fuel lines for a 75 F/I Opel come through the passenger's side wheel well and down along the frame rail. The passenger side jack pad had special holes drilled with rubber grommets where the fuel lines passed through. Other than that...the 75's also had a different fuel pickup in the tank and of course the electric pump. I think there are a number of folks on this site who have already converted a normally aspirated engine to F/I. I think there may already be some 'how-to' articles on this topic. Gary would know best.

upgrade

In order to put an EFI on a GT, you have to do body modifications in the area of your heater core. I haven't checked out the Ebay item (they took away Ebay access at my workplace...), but the standard Opel EFI does NOT clear the sheet metal arount your heater core. It will fit fine on Mantas, Asconas and Kadetts, but not on the GT.

It fits fine. I put a FI unit on my Gt in 1980 and it fit fine. The only thing you had to do was move the cold start injector to the side boss. In fact it was easy to do. No body mods are necessary.

I had to remove the passenger side hood latch since it hit the manifold on my GT.

The NA and the FI fuel tanks are different on a Manta
Enough to give you problems in my opinion.
