Easiest way to get Fuel Injection is to get a 75 donor car that you can pull the entire unit off of. I've seen systems go for the $250-350 range and as low as $150 without the Sprint Manifold. That I remember or understand, the only real mods that you have to do is put the extra fuel inlet on the GT gas tank and move the cold start injector.

Megasquirt
I've been looking at doing this for a while now. The easiest would be to get a complete 2.0L system from Opel GT Source --- Welcome. If you are looking for something more performance oriented (and configurable), take a look at megasquirt (this is what I'm doing). There is a lot of support for megasquirt available (some on this forum), but it's definitely not Plug-and-Play. You will have to figure out a lot of stuff on your own. Megasquirt is probably the best bang for your buck, if you are willing to put the time into it.

BTW: The reason I did not suggest the '75 1.9 L-jetronic system is because of it's performance limitations. It's not really suitable for anything other than a stock motor and you will get better performance from a weber 32/36. If you are going to spend the money and effort to convert to FI, you'd be wise to start with either the 2.0L system or the DIY megasquirt system.

Like what has been said already. Don't expect any significant performance increase with the stock 1975 FI setup because of it's airflow limitations, only much easier cold weather starting and somewhat smoother over the stock solex carb. setup.
No sages or flat spots in acceleration.

2.0L Jetronic EFI
I obtained the Opel 2.0 LJetronic system from Opel GTSource about a year and a half ago.I have been very pleased with the reliability of the system. The car starts right away and the motor seems to run easier and cleaner.
As was said earlier, although the Weber 32/36 is probably better performance then the Opel EFI,this was a good trade off for me....depends on what you are after! |

In my own opinion stay with a carb for performance. A sweet 32/36 works nice for a stock engine. The stock 75 FI units are nice for the bottom end but BEEEEP on the topend. Theres some aftermarket FI units that rock and roll but your getting into big time money. |

Soory to bring this up again, but here is my question, I am looking to put on the fuel injection for preformance, and once it is on i am thinking about doing a super charger, would the modified 2.0 fi system from ogts be able to accomodate this increase in hp, or is thayt system only for ease. because i know that the 75 manta fi is only for ease but is this system different?
Thanks Sterling |

We use a "VDL Fuel Systems" 4412 and the performance was night and day different from where we were at. VDL can build you a carb for your specific build application. ..:: VDL Fuel Systems ::..
DDoyle has the EFI that came off a 75' 1.9 we have. Still have the car minus the EFI. He may part with it. |

Welcome to BigStuff3.com
The stock Opel fuel injection will pose a problem with a super charger. Not to say that it cant be done. You can mix and match injectors. Bosch makes some really large ones. That air flow meter can bite you in the hiney not to mention it flows like beeeeeeep. Thinging out loud you could PWM the cold start valve under boost but that would require a different strategy in the ECM. Last edited by wrench459; 11-25-2008 at 09:53 PM. |

Wrench, thank you very much you have been very helpful. I have another question, you said that i can buy bigger injectors I dont really understand why I would need that I mean i am not really that knowledgeable about fi? Also would I be able to by a new air flow meter or is that the whole system, and if so would i even bother to buy the opel system. Lastly why would I need that?
Thank you in advance sterling |

How fast do you want to go? There's an old racers saying "you can go only as fast as your wallet allows" |

Wrench, to answer your question, I am a college student with very small pockets. In response to your other question though, i guess the only way to answer that is a story. My father who is the 0original owner of this opel gave me the car as a 19th birthday gift. At the time that he gave it to me it was not running so I had it rebuilt with the high compression pistons and the 2.0 vlaves, hoping to add a little kick. At first it was really fun and I loved it, but after driving the car for a while i realized that it had the looks of a sports car but it wasnt really gutsy in the motor dept like I had hoped it would. At this point I am 19 yrs old, and speed is everything, so I would love to go as fast as my limited pocket book will allow me. One big problem, and I dont knmow if it is applicable, is that the car is an automatic. But other than that like I already said I would love to go as fast as my money will let me.

Being I've been around the block more than once and over the hill a long time ago, lemmee tell you going fast isn't where it's at. Almost any car on the road, including box stock Opels will go the speed limit and them some. What you really want is to be quick, and that comes from torque way down low in the RPM band,. The only problem there, with the Opel, specifically the GT is the drive shaft inside the torque tube where it goes in to the differential won't take too many banzai starts before it shears the splines at the end of the shaft. So lemmee give you some advice. Drive the car as it is, a very classy, aesthetically appealing, sports car, that was designed to carry two people, two suitcases and go touring. As you get a bit older and better financially, then go with the go fast stuff. For now enjoy what you've got and you'll still get more smiles per miles than with any other car.

Namba, thank you for that. I know that speed is not everything, and I just told my dad what you said and he says that you are a very wise man. Knowing that speed isnt everything, I would still like to put fuel injection on the car for ease, and I figure that as long as it is going on, I might as well put somthing on that gives me a little more preformance. But even with out modifying the car, you are absolutely right, it does give me the most smiles per mile.

Impressing a Lady!
You have a very good basis with the 2.0 valves and hi-comp pistons - with a Weber 32/36 and a good exhaust system the GT will top 120mph - fast enough?
It will not beat 'Ricers' at the stop lights - but ... do you want to attract 'Ricer' HOs .... or a discerning Opel Lady who appreciates your GT?? Spend the money on a neat picnic hamper ... and some good food - then take an Opel Lady for a nice drive in the country, along some swoopy roads that the GT will handle better than any 'ricer' !! THAT IS LIVING!

Jim, that sounds like it would be fun. Now all I have to do is find the lovely opel lady that wants to go on the picnic and drive in the country. Like i said before though, I want the fuel injection just for ease. I live in southern californai and in the summer it gets pretty hot around here, and i want it so that my opel will start regardless of the temp, and so that I will not have to worry about vapor lock. But also like i said before as long as I am spending the money I might as well try to get the most for my money. Oh and if you know where to find the nice opel lady you were talking about, please let me know.
