Unanswered: Fuel Pump Bolt Length?

I am putting the fuel pump back into my GT and replacing the spacer that the PO had removed (or left out or whatever...).

However, it appears that the PO has cut the bolts down (!!!) to make them seat properly. Does anyone have the length of these bolts handy?

Thanks!

Trev

Trevor,

Thread a longish bolt into that the mounting holes in the chain case to see how deep the threads are. Then measure the thickness of the spacer and pump base. Add the two, subtract about 1/4", and use that length. IIRC, it's about 3/4 to 7/8".

Thanks Keith - good idea!

I am second guessing myself now...

Are anyone elses fuel pump bolts hardened? Mine are an 8.8 and NOW I am wondering if they are even the original bolts...

Umm, we could probably do this by phone or even in person and not bother the members...

"Standard" metric bolts are Gr. 8.8, about equivalent to an SAE Grade 5. Hardened Metric are Grade 10.9, approximately an SAE Grade 8. And some are Gr. 12.9 (Bearing cap bolts etc), and I don't know what the SAE equivalent is.

For fun and educations, Google it or go to

Learn something new every day. I was thinking the 8.8 was hardened, not regular. Bolts bought and fuel pump installed. That top bolt is a bit of a crank to get started with the alternator still in!

Tank is next... hopefully this week.

8.8 = Grade 5

8.8 and Grade 5 bolts are 'medium tensile' heat treated carbon steel. Ungraded SAE bolts 'ordinary'?? are made from mild steel and Metric does not have a direct equivalent.
BTW: Found the listing for the fuel pump bolts

68-74 ALL 2018114 2off Screw, fuel pump on timing hsg. (M8 X 25)
