Unanswered: Where to get a replacement fuel pump?
My first post: I'm v. happy to say after may years I'm now an Opel GT owner. I live in the UK - mine's a 1970 US model ( built late 1969 ) though I suspect it's been reshelled from a later car. ( Some details of the body ) This is the car: OPEL GT On the off-chance anyone here recognizes it. Well, I'm new to GT ownership so lots of questions are coming up as I get to know my new toy. Onto the reason for this post: ( apart from saying hello ) The fuel pump is a tad leaky - looks like it's the original - probably the gasket, but given its age I suspect a full replacement would be in order. So from where ( In the UK ) would I be best getting a replacement? Are there 'better' fuel-pumps I should be using instead of trying to track down an OEM? My thanks. PS I'm hopefully replacing the wheels ( among other things ) and am probably going to have to resort to spacers to get the correct offset. How good/bad an idea is that? ( I'm thinking of 37 year old studs! )

Charlie, you're in good company over there, you've got Baz, a former moderator on this site, and motormouth who is also quite knowldegeable on the Opel GT. They could give you info on where to obtain parts locally and other info pertinent to maintaining your "new' GT. BTW, welcome aboard the best site on the web.

first of all welcome to the club. Nice looking car you've got ![]() I had some troubles too lately with a leaking fuel-pump. Since the fuel-pump belongs to a normal Opel 1900 engine (in the UK probably Vauxhall) I just went to a nearby alround autoparts-dealer . They just looked it up in their books and the fuel-pump was still available and even in store. So I don't think you won't have any problems finding such a fuel-pump (or brake-parts, suspension-parts etc since everything is the same as in the old Kadett B cars). Good luck

Thanks for the tip - my brother knows a chap who runs one of those old parts-shop places. They seem to be getting quite rare in the UK hence my not considering it.
You know the type: @ The main dealer: -Smart & gleaming, the smell of coffee in the air- 'I'm looking for ..., for a ...' 'Never heard of it, no the company never made one...' 'But, it's got your badge on the front!?!' 'Must have been put there by someone else...' ( Close to the converation I had @ a Toyota dealer when my Mk1 MR2 broke on a family visit! ) @ Ye Olde parts shop: -A bit dark + dingy, shelves looming high with dusty boxes- 'I'm looking for ..., for a ...' 'Oh, yes', without even having to think, 'I've got one under the desk.' ( I don't think this conversation has ever gone any differently ) I'll see if my brother will drop round & post it to me.
