Unanswered: Fuel Pump installation

I am working out a timing 180 degrees out problem and to remove the distributor, I had to remove the fuel pump. I believe I have the 180 out problem solved, but now the fuel pump will not go back in, as it is bottoming out before it is fully seated. Is this normal? What should I be doing to rectify this?

Ready to start my GT for first time after engine swap... this is all I need solved... I hope.

THanks,

Spacer!

There should be an 1/4" (..well 6mm ...) thick insulating spacer where the pump mounts with a gasket each side - got one?
Also turn the motor over till the fuel pump activating cam on the bottom of the distributor shaft is 'IN' not 'OUT'.

Thanks, Jim. I do not have the gaskets, so I guess an order from OGTS is in need. I DO have the Spacer though!!
I stripped one of the mounting holes, so I am now needing to heli-coil that hole... Getting closer and then farther...

That's the wrong attitude! The Heli-coil is stronger than the original threads in the aluminum. Put that in the 'high performance modification' column!
The next thing on the 'high performance modification' to-do list is to safety wire all the little nuts and bolts in the headlight rotators....

you can make the gaskets from gasket paper bought from many hardware shops and auto supply houses it just needs to be marked with a pen and cutout with a craft knife on some wood

i've even made them from cornflake boxes at a pinch and used them for years

You can also make gaskets from Brown paper shopping bags. From your local grocery store.
