Unanswered: new gas tank filler gasket: 5 min job

Gene(BSQ4) suggested this last night in the chat room. Worked like a charm.
You dont need to disconnect the filler tube to put in a new gasket at the body exit point.
step1: plug gas tank hole with a rag,cut out old gasket with razor knife

step2: boil a cup of water, add gasket, add dish soap to cup. I used gloves to avoid a burn with the hot water.

step3: slip it on over the top. the heat and soapy water makes the gasket so pliable, you you just work it around and in 1 min,you got it.

real easy, my type of project, that ungrades that old cracked gasket.

Thanks Gene

I did mine after the new paint job and eliminated the removal process. Got mine fron OGTS. Looks great and is an easy project too!

Some folks take the easy way out. Of course I had the tank out and all the shelving. But I did have a new gasket from OGTS and used some "Petrolatum, Technical", commercial "Vaseline", and it just slid in the hole, and the filler neck did too.

Nice tip Dean, Gene(BSQ4). I marked that one down as a keeper. I love this site. Learn something new every day. Jarrell
