Unanswered: Help with idea for fuel filler hose

Hi Everyone,

My GT has swapped the stock gas cap for a motorcycle gas cap. The diameter at the top of the fuel filler hose is 2.5". I think the stock hose is 2.25". In any case, it's different and smaller than what I need at the top of the hose. I've been using a 2.5" hose clamping over a short length of 2.25" hose at the tank. This plus the fact that the gas cap and the gas tank don't line up makes this a less than ideal solution.

Today when I was pumping gas, I noticed a huge run-off under the car. Most of the fuel was spilling out of the bottom of the fuel filler hose. My setup has finally given up.

Any ideas on how to best go from a 2.5" to a 2.25"/2" fitting for the fuel filler hose? Keeping in mind that there's a slight weave from gas cap to gas tank.

Thanks,

Manny

BAT Inc. sells the fuel filler lines, adapters, and "step-downs". I bought an aluminum Monza cap setup from them with all the lines to plumb it directly to the factory fuel tank. No fuel leaks.

Thanks. I'll take a look at their site. Does anyone know the stock fuel filler hose dimension? Is it 2.25" or 2"? Or something completely different?

Manny, I would say something different. I just replaced the hose from the filler neck to the tank on Willit?, with an OGTS replacement hose and kept the original one just for grins and giggles. According to my Sears plastic calipers with a dial indicator the hose ID is 1.9 +" and under 2". I had to use some commercial grade vaseline to get the hose over both steel tubes. HTH.

Ron, thanks for the info. Might you, or someone, post pics of the stock filler hose? It's been so long since I've had one that I don't remember what they look like. Does it have any curvature in it? Or is it straight?

Propel,

How did you spec the filler hose from the Monza cap to the gas tank?

Thanks,

Manny

Manny, ask and you shall receive. The hose is straight, just a shade over 4" at about 4.125". I took the pic on top of the boat I'm building. It's a .21" engine in an Aeromarine Laminates Catamaran. HTH.

Thanks Ron. I'm surprised that it's straight. So when installed, there should be a slight "s" bend, right?

OOPS! I just looked in the gas smell thread and there was a picture illustrating the stock setup. My bad.

Uh Yeah. I was gonna say the top tube has a slight bend to it, so that it lines up with the angled tube off the top of the tank. IIRC there's about an inch between the two tubes with the hose connecting the two.
