Unanswered: putting tire rack back in

I just redid my gas tank and lines and replaced the old sending unit with a new one from opel gt source. It is a longer sending unit and has three gaskets on it to lift it up enough to fit in the tank. I tried to find a thread for this question, but I couldn't. Now that I am putting the tire rack back in, it fits fine, but the metal bracket thing that goes at the back with the three holes in it that supports the arm that holds the tire in place will not fit back in. I'm guessing it is because of my sending unit sticking up more than usual, or maybe I am just doing it wrong. Or maybe I just need a bigger hammer. Has this happened to anyone?
thanks, em

Hmmm.... another Saturday night, another night at home with a computer and a 4-pack of Bartles and Jaymes..... keep trying, the laundromat gal will give in yet and go bowling with ya.

Meanwhile, anyone have interference problems with the new fuel tank sending unit from OGTS?

If the sending unit is higher than the top of the gas tank it is most likely your problem. The fix would be to take the plywood deck out and using what ever tools you have available (router would be the best) create a pocket into which the new sender will fit. Put the deck back in and voila everything looks exactly the same, but your problem is solved.

I just had a look at the bottom of my plywood deck (and I believe that it is in its original condition) and there is a routed out slot for the sending unit. So if you rebuilt this deck, like Jeff said, that may be where your problem lays.

I think the problem described is that the new sender sticks up higher than the old one so the routed out section may have to be made deeper if the original deck is being used.

Did OGTS screw up?

I would have sent the too big sensor back and asked for the correct one.
Three gaskets cant seal very well.

I am sure the problem here is that there is no correct one available and that OGTS found a "best fit". You can't get new original senders anymore, only re-built ones.
