That is nice Dallas, but I think your's is better looking. That car just about makes it a complete set. Yours has no top, Mike Pilkenton's, I believe, has a removable top and that one keeps it all on the car, albeit hidden under the trunk?
I ran across this and thought I would share it with you all. Has anyone ever seen or heard of this car? And I thought mine was cool...

That's right, it's a Spyder, just like all the others you have seen... Rice Boy!

But I like this one!![]()

Beautifully done and I appreciate the work that has gone into the hardtop, but y'know, at some point, they don't look like GT's anymore.
2.4 "Legere" Stroker - Weber DCOE45 - Getrag - Compufire - S10 Clutch
I like the look of these too, but don't fancy the price tag considering the underpinnings.
They're based on the running gear from an Opel Omega (95onwards) and come with a 2.5/3.0 V6 motor running rear wheel drive. It uses a folding roof like the Mercedes SLK and it's overall dimensions are larger than those of a GT's.
If anyone fancies one here's one for you now: mobile.de - der Automarkt für Gebrauchtwagen und Neufahrzeuge - Finden oder Verkaufen Sie einfach und schnell ihr Auto - andere*Keinath GT,*Pkw,*blau
Oh and the cost.....about $35000!

I used to have an Opel....now i have a collection
69 GT 2.5 FI, Getrag, Irmscher Big Brakes, LSD, Lowered, 8" & 8.5" BBS RM's, Leather.....ex Dealer Opel Team
70 GT 1.9 Weber, 4 Speed
70 GT 1.9 Twin Weber, 4 Speed, Alloys
71 GT 2.0 Weber, Getrag, Lenk Styling, Alloys
71 GT 3.5 V8 Holley, RHD, TARGA, Leather Recaros
75 Commodore GS Coupe, 2.5 Twin Carb, Auto
76 Commodore GS/E Coupe, 2.8 FI, Auto, Alloys, LSD, Sunroof
The Keinath GT is what I would think a modern GT should look more like. Not the look of the Sky or Solstice is like. And, the $35,000 seems reasonable to me. I would prefer roll over headlights though.![]()
I've met Horst Keinath in 1997 (or was it 98?), shortly before I emigrated to the States. He is a friend of a friend, and at the party of our common friend we were talking Opels for some hours. As a result, I visited him in his nearby shop the very next day, and got a short test ride of his own Keinath GT. I tell you, those small roads around Reutlingen can be very narrow, especially the curves... The handling is absolutely great, and the car feels pretty light weight, even with the Omega running gear. If I remember right, the price for a new one was around DM 95,000 at that time, which would translate to US$ 60,000 nowadays.
The Keinath Brothers (before Horst Keinath split the company apart to build the Keinath GT) actually built the araund 20 Bitter SC Convertibles for Erich Bitter. Just some other fact that is not too well known.

As I was looking through the pictures I was thinking the same thing... Much more of what I thought a 2007 GT would/should look like. I love the cockpit. Not sure about the red badge on front/rear.. almost looks like a Chevy emblem? Nice work on the rearend as well. Only thing I would have done diff if I had the skills/money/opportunity, would be the headlamps.. would maybe like a clear lens flowing with the body curves. Would also be interested in seeing pics with the hardtop on. Anyone have a link to more pics?
I see the Keinath GT has my rocker panels on it. Truly the first step to holding the car together when the roof gets hacked off...
Nice looking car! Looks great in yellow, huh?
But I still have to prefer Dallas' Spyder. It is a true "phantom", you know, an example of a car that makes you wonder if they really did (or could have) actually been produced with that option. It retains the stock look everywhere else (bodywise), whereas the Keinath was modified in so many ways that you have to look harder to recognize it as a GT. As if it were the next generation of GT, had there been one.
(edit) I just noticed Mark's post, OK so it is NOT a GT, never was one, but it is a car built to resemble a GT. Cool. Then it is the next gen GT, in a way. I am very very impressed. The car industry would call it something like a "retro" GT.

Styling wise, I still prefer the classic GT hands down, although I like the exhaust location in this car. I'm curious about the two rectangular lights lights next to the tail pipes. One amber and one clear lens. I assume one is a backup light, but what about the other?

Not only the running gear, but also the cockpit comes from the Omega B.

I also thought that front emblem looked too much like a Chevy bow tie.

I noticed that the rear (trunk?) panel, as seen from the rear picture, doesn't seem to fit flush to the body evenly. Maybe it's just popped open a little? My guess though, it's just not a good smooth finished look. Jerry
I've some original magazines, believe from '96, with a report about this car. The magazine is called "start" from the opel dealers. It also shows a keinath GT WITH flipover headlights and almost original bodywork. Only it's body is widened. I'm still busy with my new house, but within a few days I'll finish my own room. That means I can install more hardware to my PC. Then I'll scan some pics and put it on the forum.
