Noticed that this his GT has everything red and remembered your question. Both shift bezel and E-brake tray. Early GT (70) with 2 piece belt system.

I saw the red tray..cool

I went to Lexington NC yesterday to look at a $400 parts car...I had to pass on it, but took some pics. moisture and neglect is a bad combo.

I hope they gave you $400 to come look at it. The first picture is tragic!

I actually just wanted a better set of black seats to replace my trashed red ones. I asked the guy on the phone if he would sell me the seats for a $100 and I would give him my seats to put back in his car. He said my red seats would make his car harder to sell (HA HA). Thought I would be looking at a car that was in a lot better shape than what I saw, and maybe get it and strip it down. You just never know the condition until you go look for yourself.

With the cost of gas I should make a checklist of things to ask before going to look at cars.

1) Can you send me some pics?

2) How long since the car was driven?

3) Is it in a garage?

4) How does the paint look?

5) add your questions here

You'd have a hard time justifying $100 for that car. There's not much worth it on the whole car. Not sure if it had a motor, gas cap or bumpers. A few trim pieces, the radio, the gauges and bezel, the glass and headlight buckets. Maybe the suspension and differential but theres a good chance that they may be to rough even for sandblasting.

It did have a motor, but the car looked like it sat with the hood open for a while and the distributor was full of rust from having the cap left off. windshield was cracked, gas cap was aftermarket...transmission was behind the seats...pretty sad over all.

I found out about the car from putting an ad on craigslist for "opel parts wanted". I got a response in 10 minutes! So it might be worth doing that in your area and see what turns up. You never know when the "li'l ole lady" that only drove her car to church on Sunday decides to sell

I don't know what's original or not but I have had a lot of success with paint designed for vinyl. Works on pleather and hard plastic equally well. I got some from J.C. Whitney years ago that worked well. Here are some tips:

two more

Strictly speaking this isn't a real Opel, but the coupe version of the I-mark is basically the same car as Dieter's Kadett C, and this one's a diesel to boot:
1981 Isuzu Imark Diesel - VERY RARE!!! 40 MPG!!!

Also, check out my logbook here or my blog at buggywindscreen.blogspot.com for pictures of my '73 Ascona 2-door; it's also available for sale. It has some rust, mostly in the trunk and driver's side floor, but the body is straight with only one tiny ding in the nose. If you're looking to build a racecar and were planning on putting in a fuel cell, it'll be about perfect at $300. Obviously if I get around to fixing it and getting it running the price will go up, so buy it now at a bargain price and do the work yourself!

That's what I get for guessing at the state when I use google to find opels. Craigslist doesn't tell you the state only the city.
