Opel GT store?
I am very active in the BMW 2002 faq site. They have a store where vendors sell their wares and the site gets 10% for every sale. The vendors/member's product development are so varied that you get a lot of good new parts for a good price plus you are helping the site. Why don't we put up and Opel store and help the site cover it's costs of hosting and upkeep etc......
I am willing to offer all the DBilas product line and for every sale, 10% of the sale goes to this site to support it. Any members who have made parts for Opels? The site can start with just selling t-shirts, caps, mugs, mouse pads etc.... Cheers, Dave |

T-Shirts For Sale
If Dave wants to start up a Opel Store I think that's Great News. Getting Opel Parts and other assorted stuff is pretty hard for Opel Enthusiast.
I have made Opel GT Mugs, and T-Shirts but found that they are very slow sellers. Maybe if we had a Offical Store approved by the Web Site and 10% or more was Donated back to the site, sales would be better, as people and members would be helping OPELGT.COM Just my two cents what it's worth. |

Opel store
There is a lot of parts that can be developed like fiberglass body parts and kits, fuel pump block of plate for converting to electric pump, distributor cap/cover plate for those converting to distributorless ignition with itb setup or megasquirt.
how about carpet kits, door panel boards made of wood, etc....? |

It's gonna be a real struggle to sell anything unless the price is right. Because OGTS and USA OPEL combined have just about everything you need. And there prices are very good in my eyes and there business is wonderful! I always trust a part when i buy from them.

I second that emotion.... It doesn't have to compete with the established parts sellers. Maybe, the store sells the creative, custom accessories that come from individuals. In addition, club logo (if the logo ever gets finalized) on stickers, shirts, caps, and jackets etc. The occasional offering of tees and caps from short run ads in the classified, aren't going to move very well. If you put those same products in a store, where they can be viewed, and considered, they will move over time.
I like the idea of having a unique store, that will contribute to the site that has given so much to its members. Wes |

Has anyone tried to contact OGTS about this? I'm wondering if they would be willing to donate even 5% of their sales to this site whenever someone mentions that they were referred to them from discussions on this site. They obviously receive great advertising and recommendations from members of this site, and it must generate a fair amount of revenue for them. Seems like everyone would win... you get quality parts, super-quality customer service... they get referred and recommended business.... the site gets a bit of a subsidy for costs.

I too agree that a UNIQUE STORE is what we need, Something that our Members make or Parts fabrication made custom, or even group buying of Specially made parts, This is where members should be able to buy something that says OPEL GT . COM on it to help surport the Sites Server Fees etc. Not to compete with our Trusted Opel Vendors. We have allot of skilled people out there that would be willing to help our Opels Stay Alive. |

Hey guys I think what was being suggested by Dapbmw was a supplemental way to sell things that individuals have to sell that have recently come to market and are not being sold yet by OGTS or USA Opels or just Opel stuff we may need to liquidate from our stock. Not necessarily something designed to compete with OGTS or USA Opels.
Sort of our own EBAY if you will. Say if we design our own GT logos, hats, tshirts, custom seats, mirrors, body kits, memorabilia, or even if we design our own prototypes for much needed parts. This would allow a small business person to sell something (ie. those AC units mentioned a while back) without high overhead. This way someone can advertise something they can sell you, and custom build it (ie AC Unit) and not necessarily have to have it in stock immediately, as they would if they auctioned it off on EBAY. |

And the reason we don't have anything like that here is because this site doesn't want any liability if one of those people trying to sell something sells a bunch of garbage or just takes everyone's money and runs. No one here in the administration of the site has the kind of time it would take to do background checks on everyone who would maybe want to sell something. No one selling a few parts can afford to front enough capital to provide the site with reasonable assurance they would follow through or refund if necessary.
There are a lot of risks associated with buying things sight-unseen over the internet. Every transaction has those risks, no matter what anyone tells you. We've had bad group buys go through this site before and some of the sore victims actually thought the site should pay them back for their losses. Since that sort of thing is not possible, and that attitude exists, selling things through the site has to remain a "buyer beware, at your own risk" type of exchange not sponsored by the site. That said, the classified section of this site is very easy to use, and no one is going to stop a seller from donating a portion of their profits from sales there back to the site or advertising that they would do so. We haven't really been using half the functionality of that portion of the site either, the feedback and communication options there are pretty powerful tools. For fabricated parts it might make sense for Gary to come up with (or have Tony come up with) a special logo to add to their parts to signify that a portion of the procedes goes back to this site. Maybe get some stickers made up for builders/sellers to add to their products, maybe share the logo with t-shirt and mug folks to incorporate into their design? Gary could send out an initial 5-pack, then more as needed once the donations from those first 5 items came in. Last edited by oldopelguy; 09-14-2008 at 02:19 PM.. |

Can I make a suggestion then as to how long someone can post an ad for? Point being I think some of these ads for things for sale get neglected by their seller. I've seen items on here listed for long periods of time. I found an item that is currently listed I was interested in, since there was no pic of it I asked the seller a question. That was 3 months ago and no response, and the ad is still posted. Can we limit postings, say only up to 3 or 4 weeks? and then the seller can alway resubmit the item again (like they would on EBAY). Frustrating to be looking at items or cars that have been posted for MONTHS and not know if they still own the item to sell.
